Started the day off with a trip to Manuel's, a breakfast and lunch place in Port Isabel that we love so much that we'll likely visit it two more times while we're down here.

I had machacado, which is dried beef mixed up with egg and jalapeno. Yummmmm.

I, sadly, will be at our Sunday tech rehearsal instead of at home watching the Oscars.  This will be the first one I've missed in years.  I could DVR it, but unless there are a few outrageous moments that are not to be missed, I fear that watching it later probably won't happen.  Sorry I won't be here for the HHW par-tay!

But you can partake in our all-day parlor game on Sunday!

And I am home from City Center, the post office, and the bank.  It's far too cold to be out running errands.

Thanks to all for the thoughts.  Viewing and service are tomorrow, so I may not be around these here parts much.  I have not yet been contacted about being a pall bearer, so perhaps there are enough younger people to take care of that....there will be a burial not a cremation.

Here is the obituary:  http://www.carlislebranson.com/obituaries/Edith-Swinney/#!/Obituary

Here is a photo of all of the "kids".....L to R: Edith, Betty, Alice (my mom),  Anna, Bob,   Donnie, Wayne, and Martha.  Taken in the 1980's at my grandparents' 60th anniversary celebration.

DR JRand64, I send my condolences to you and your family.

Was out ill yesterday.   Had sore throat, draining sinuses and general bodily discomfort.

One good thing:  I took a nap on my new mattress (on top of a "made" bed, that is) yesterday afternoon.  Slept soundly for two hours and awakened refreshed and ready to prep a bit of early dinner.

Had spaghetti.

Jack:  What a wonderfully large family on your mother's side.  My father had eight brothers and sisters.  It was very sad when they began going...especially the "favorites".

Condolences to your family.  Always remember that your loved ones will be saving you a place when it's your time to cross over!

Wow...eight kids.  My dad is one of six.  I only have my sister.  I can't imagine being part of a large family like that.  I know a couple of brothers who are part of 14, count 'em 14 siblings, and all lived into adulthood.

DR elmore3003  -  I read that ps classics recorded the Texas production of The Golden Apple and is releasing it as a 2-disc set.

I wonder if they used your materials for that production?

I saw that too and that was the first thing that came into my mind.

DR singdaw, since Tommy Krasker is not a friend and I am out of the loop on this, I have no idea what's going on beyond the fact that the recording is being assembled from recordings of four performances. I do not know if they are recording additional things, like the cuts and changes the Texas conductor made, or anything more about it.  I voiced my opinion about the musical director's cuts since, given the fact that it was the first performances with orchestra in twenty years and they were talking about a live recording, he couldn't perform the entire score.  Yes, the materials are the final version I edited, and God preserve us from some conductors.

For me, the sad thing is that I hoped to record the show with a Broadway cast and Rob Berman conducting.  I'm hoping for Moross's daughter's sake that the Texas performances prove me wrong, but I heard a bootleg from the first weekend and thought, well, it's a good college try.

Hopefully, they will do it justice.

Even if you don't like "modern" classical music, this is a pretty bravura performance!

Oh, my!  That's an interesting piece.  Going through some of her (Barbara Hannigan) YouTube clips, she also conducts.

Also, she actually sang and conducted THIS version of "Mysteries of the Macabre" AND THIS version...talk about talented!

When I first glanced at today's column title, I read "The Nostalgia Grits".

Now I am nostalgic for grits.

Got in a long walk on the beach today. Despite truly heavy winds, there were para-surfers dancing across the tops of waves. Beautiful sight to see. They were moving fast and managing to keep their keep on their boards and parachutes above the water. The sound of the crashing waves was music to my whole body. I didn't try to get into the water, but it was good to just breathe in the sea air.

Then I got a message on BOOKFACE from Brad, my cousin Lita's husband telling me that Lita had been in the hospital since Wednesday because they thought she had congestive heart failure.

She didn't want anyone to know because she didn't want us to worry.

He gave us a phone number.....it was a PM so it only came to me....so I called her up and said WHAT THE HELL?????

She is okay, they drained a lot of fluid, and they say they can control it with meds and diet.....

So.....there you are.  Everybody hug everybody and call everyone you love and let them know.
