Well, you've read the notes, the notes had both nostalgia and bits, and now it is time for you to post until the nostalgic cows come home.

I know I shouldn't complain that is only 40 degrees, as other are getting it worse, but I never realize how ill equipped I am for this cold weather.

Really loving revisiting One from Column A.

It is giddy, and reading it always lifts my spirits.

DR elmore3003  -  I read that ps classics recorded the Texas production of The Golden Apple and is releasing it as a 2-disc set.

I wonder if they used your materials for that production?

Good morning, all.

Laid awake half the damned night, thanks to an ill-timed, misbegotten cup of coffee.  Or maybe it was an illbegotten and mis-timed one.  Yes, I believe that might very well have been the problem.

BK is closing in on the big 80,000 milestone.  if there's a number rounder than that, I do not know of one.

Even if you don't like "modern" classical music, this is a pretty bravura performance!

Good morning, all! I have to copy a celesta part this morning for Joshie and then take some things to City Center.  I do not relish going outside into the cold.  This is also Dubln weekend for me: Joe Corbett, who's on DEAREST ENEMY and EILEEN, is in town, and annalene my leading lady from DEAREST ENEMY and ROBERTA arrives today.

We watched THE TWO FACES OF JANUARY a couple of weeks ago.

It was okay, but with the talent involved it could have been much better.  It fell apart in the third act.

DR singdaw, since Tommy Krasker is not a friend and I am out of the loop on this, I have no idea what's going on beyond the fact that the recording is being assembled from recordings of four performances. I do not know if they are recording additional things, like the cuts and changes the Texas conductor made, or anything more about it.  I voiced my opinion about the musical director's cuts since, given the fact that it was the first performances with orchestra in twenty years and they were talking about a live recording, he couldn't perform the entire score.  Yes, the materials are the final version I edited, and God preserve us from some conductors.

For me, the sad thing is that I hoped to record the show with a Broadway cast and Rob Berman conducting.  I'm hoping for Moross's daughter's sake that the Texas performances prove me wrong, but I heard a bootleg from the first weekend and thought, well, it's a good college try.

It is -1 degrees Fahrenheit right now.  That's a minus sign there.  A negativo, good buddy.  Over and out.

In anticipation of Sunday night's Oscars, I have now seen both BIRDMAN and THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING.  I watched BOYHOOD and THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL a few weeks ago.

Best Actor is certainly a hard call.  Eddie Redmayne was sensational, but THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING is not a movie that I would care to see again.  I liked BIRDMAN much more and Keaton is also magnificent.

Choosing between BIRDMAN and BOYHOOD as Best Picture is not an easy call either.  But, of all the movies I've seen thus far that are in contention, my personal favorite is THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL.  It won't win, but I really liked it.

Looking forward to seeing AMERICAN SNIPER, WHIPLASH, SELMA and THE IMITATION GAME when they are released onto DVD.  Also INTO THE WOODS.

Wow.  Didn't know Ligeti did this kind of "modern".  But it put a smile on my face, so what the heck.

I, sadly, will be at our Sunday tech rehearsal instead of at home watching the Oscars.  This will be the first one I've missed in years.  I could DVR it, but unless there are a few outrageous moments that are not to be missed, I fear that watching it later probably won't happen.  Sorry I won't be here for the HHW par-tay!

Friday morning greetings!  I ventured out in the cold last night for book group, as did 4 other hearty souls.  Today I have to get some errands done before the next snow/ice storm that's predicted for all day tomorrow  :P

Thanks to all for the thoughts.  Viewing and service are tomorrow, so I may not be around these here parts much.  I have not yet been contacted about being a pall bearer, so perhaps there are enough younger people to take care of that....there will be a burial not a cremation.

Here is the obituary:  http://www.carlislebranson.com/obituaries/Edith-Swinney/#!/Obituary

Here is a photo of all of the "kids".....L to R: Edith, Betty, Alice (my mom),  Anna, Bob,   Donnie, Wayne, and Martha.  Taken in the 1980's at my grandparents' 60th anniversary celebration.
