Jane, I can tell you've moved a lot because you're so organized. I am impressed, though, at how many showings you've had so early. Were the realtors advertising even though it wasn't officially listed yet?

There are two offices for our realtor and our house was announced there.  They then announced it on Friday at the meeting for all the realtor's in the area which is why we were so busy today.  We were in exile for 5 1/2 hours today.

They then made an offer that expires tomorrow morning.

I've been watching THE ANZAC GIRLS. (ANZAC=Australia-New Zealand Army Corps) They were a group of nurses who supported Allied troops during WWI. A bit of Hollywood in it, but a good drama just the same.

Like the Anzac bisquits.  I got a recipe from former DR TomofOz after our trip to New Zealand.

We finished organizing and tweaking our house today.  It looks even more incredible.  We sat on the deck thinking maybe we shouldn't leave when the phone rang ;D

I don't know whether to congratulate you or offer condolences  on the quick sale

I just know I am sad I will never get to visit your home (remote as that possibility  ever was!)

DR CILLA LIZ - I am surprised there is not a book about the camps.....well, there probably is, but I just don't know about it.

There is a book about the Algona camp.  I wrote down the title somewhere, they sell it at the museum there if I can't find it elsewhere.  I guess there are books about the other camps too.  Who knew?  This is honestly something I had no idea about, I mean I'd heard there was a PW camp there, but I had no idea it was like this

I did go to the talk about the POWs, they called them PWs then, in Iowa and around the country.  There were something like 300,000 or 400,000 prisoners of war around the US.  They brought them here because of a need for labor when so many of the men were fighting over seas.   It wasn't a terrible existence, I guess they had a great orchestra and did plays and that sort of thing.  If you needed labor, you contacted the camp and they would send people and set up a branch camp.  A number of the former prisoners have helped donating money and artifacts to the museum.   They worked farms, in factories, building a dike on the river all sorts of things.

Former prisoners donating money :)  I knew they liked it there ;)
Isn't that crazy!   There was also a woman there who's father had prisoners working on their farm.  When you got the workers you had to house and feed them, so her mother made meals for them.  What an strange but interesting concept.  I really want to find some books about the camps

There was a great story of one prisoner who escaped and had a one night fling with a civilian woman who worked at the camp and then snuck back into the camp in the morning.  There was another story about some who thought they could leave Minnesota near where the Mississippi River starts and make it to New Orleans.   It was November.  After about three weeks they ran out of food so they went back to the camp.    They could write home, get packages from home.  There were poets, artists, musicians and all sorts of people.  It was still being held against their will but the conditions weren't as bad as they were in other countries

Interesting.  I'm glad you went.

One of the most interesting comments they made was that many of the Germans were just glad to be away from the fighting.  They knew they were ok and no one was shooting at them.

Thanks Jane and everyone else who expressed condolences.  I'm a bit worried about Don.  I thought they were married, but I guess they weren't.  He's pretty lost without her. He does have Sarah the corgi to keep him company and Karen's sister was there with them when she passed.  He told me he has other family coming in - 6 nephews and others, so at least he has some support right now.   I do think I'll take something over tomorrow, maybe just a big vege tray.  There will likely be sweets and meals from others, it's kind of nice to have something healthy to much on

It's hard to leave a place you love.  But it sounds like you've made the decision and are about to embark on a new chapter.  That can be fun and exciting even with the bittersweet of leaving paradise.

Does anyone remember the 1978 tv movie, "Summer of My German Soldier" with Kristie McNichol?

Yes, I actually thought about that today.  I don't remember how he got to her house in the movie, but it makes sense if he was at a camp

True Cilla.  It would be easier if we were set on where to go since we have ruled out California.  We might get lucky and find something in town.  First to get through the inspections and closing.

I better get to sleep, it's really getting late.   I got the billing for the office all done tonight, well it's on a flash drive and I'll print it out and mail the statements tomorrow.  I worked for a while last night and now if I can just spend a little time tomorrow reviewing two cases, I'll be in good shape to start the week.

Things have changed since the last time we closed on property.  In the morning I will download my paperwork to sign, Keith has a duplicate email, and send it back.
