Another thing about RSVP-ing:  some organizations that I'm in have the policy of billing members who make reservations for catered functions and then don't show up to pay at the door.  Most people pay up and sometimes we have people showing up who didn't make reservations to even it out.  But sometimes, the treasury takes a hit having to pay for meals that were not consumed.  I think the penance for that should be serving as treasurer for a year...

Glad the show went well, BK, but add my voice to the chorus that 30 no-shows is simply rude.

TOD:

I love trying new recipes. I've lately started a collection of Texas cookbooks, and what I love is the amount of influences from other cultures that come into play in the culinary heritage of this state. Mexican is obvious, but also German, Asian, Polish, French, you name it.

Now, if I had a little more time to cook ...

Well, if I had a little more time to cook, I'd probably gain back all of the weight I've lost.

I am not very happy with the 2016 season that the committee wants....if we want to get our season ticket numbers up, we need to do shows people WANT to see.....and again...we have no LARGE CAST comedy......

Little Women (the musical) instead of Snoopy!!! The Musical
On Golden Pond instead of Laughing Stock
1776
The Odd Couple (female version)

Perhaps I will take a year off from directing.

All the no-shows were from Sami's mom's group.  Lots of Sami's schoolmates - in fact, most of her schoolmates and their folks are the ones who, after saying they'd be there, didn't show.  There were plenty of other folks I could have invited had I known that would be the case.

I'm up, I'm up.  Got some notes from Doug Haverty, which were interesting on any number of levels and few of which would interest me to do, because lots of them are from the point of view of what show HE would write, which never interests me.  I do think about all of it, especially the larger questions like what kind of show IS it.  I'll share some of this later.  For now, I can't even think straight after only two or three hours of sleep.

I have posted my favorite recipe before:

One slice of white bread
Add a helping of Miracle Whip or Hellman's
Put one slice of Kraft American Cheese on the bread
Place two slices of Spam horizontally on the cheese
Put another slice of Kraft American Cheese on top of the Spam slices
Place another slice of white bread on top.

You may slice into two pieces if you wish...slicing horizontally between the two Spam slices.

Serve.

BRUCE JENNER NOW CAITLYN ON VANITY FAIR COVER

I guess I will never fully understand. In college, I knew a former football player who began taking hormone treatments. Later when I saw John Lithgow in the movie THE WORLD ACCORDING TO GARP, that was what this fellow/female looked like. He was so anguished. He was not really any sexuality that could be readily understood. Unfortunately, I don't think this person wound up being able to pass as either sex.

On the paternal side of my family, my Dad had a cousin who was born in the 1940s. I only knew of his situation in the 1980s because we all wanted to know who this "new" woman in the family was. Turns out that as an infant, his circumcision went wrong, and he was essentially desexed. So, the medical decision was to remove all external traces of maleness. The parents were told to go about normalcy and raise their boy as a boy even with the tragic circumstances. What happened was really not that surprising. He never felt like a boy. When he reached his 20s, he began treatments, first psychologically, the hormonally. By the time I had met this cousin, there was no doubt that this was as successful (at least outwardly) as the famed Renee Richards, but I think more feminine. I believe this cousin was under the same surgeon's care.

There's one more story to follow.

Good afternoon folks, just checking in now!

I had to take a detour from Rhinelander to drop off my neice, then return back to my office to check some e-mails that were sent. I'm back home now, and finally have the time to join yet another thread of the day. Had to make sandwhiches for my neice before she had to go.

TTFN, gentlemen! I'll check back in after my afternoon snooze.

Mike, the volunteer driver that helps me via the American Cancer Society, has a friend whose story parallels Jenner's. I only know what I've been told, so I only really have the outlines of the story. His friend a successful and well-respected plastic surgeon, 65 years old, volunteering much of his time to treat medical cases others cannot treat due to age, complications, etc. After his last child left for college, he told his wife that he wasn't happy, even though by all "standards" he should be. He told her that he had begun treatments and would become physically a woman. His wife immediately filed for divorce. Mike has been this surgeon's friend for several decades and was surprised of his decision. Mike thought he "knew" his friend, but will still be his friend through it all. Mike thought he "knew" the surgeon's wife and was surprised that she wouldn't support her husband emotionally, but he's trying to see both sides. It's not easy to understand from the outside, so it must be a challenge within.

Much like Heathcliff the cat, I always enjoyed a well made traditional lasagna with alternating layers of Italian cheeses and seasoned ground beef. When I discovered Greek food, I also grew fond of moussaka. Since I was diagnosed with celiac, I miss those very much.

At Christmas time, my paternal grandmother would make struffoli slathered in honey, dried fruits, nuts, ribbon candy, and nonpareils. I know it's frowned on by some now, but she would make this veal dish in which the meat was stuffed and baked. One of the side dishes was stuffed artichokes.

My Mom would make delicious beef broth soup with marrow balls, one of my all-time favorites. I think it's ironic now with my having lymphoma and being told that should it recur I would have to have marrow replacement.

And then there was the Canadian boy who also had a botched circumcision, but was raised as a girl.  Sadly, this story did not have a happy ending. :(
