I have a soft spot for these Milton Subotsky portmanteau movies. They have a self-containedness, a world unto themselves, if that makes sense:

One of the best non-Christopher Lee Dracula pictures:

Three things going for this one: Shatner (big plus), the creative team behind the original THE OUTER LIMITS (which this has the look and feel, and music, similar to the TV show), and Esperanto.

I'm up, I'm up.  Oy and vey.  I fell asleep around three and was up at six again.  Then I fell asleep around seven-thirty and slept until about 1:30, so I guess that's nine hours - I've kind of missed most of the day and rehearsal starts in about two and a half hours.

One of the creepiest made-for-TV horrors, for ABC:

Probably one of the top two creepiest made-for-TV horrors, kicked up a notch or two by the one-of-a-kind Karen Black:

DR SINGDAW - usually we only have to direct ONE show per season.  This season I am doing THE BAD SEED....

It is a creepy script...it's one thing to read it or to see it on television or DVD....and quite another to see it happen right in front of you...I am discovering.

TOD:

I loved nosy Katy Winters telling all of her girlfriends about Secret deodorant.

And I loved the statues in the Ban Roll On commercials...."In the mature male....and the mature female....."

I like the Brylcreem commercials....

I haven't been able to find Katy Winters on YouTube, but there are many hair tonic commercials featured.

And of course this one - this is the remix:

I also liked Jonathan Winters's HEFTY commercials in which he played the dirty old lady Maude Frickert.

There was a commercial for a toothpaste where the main character takes a piece of chalk and dips it into some sort of dye and compares that to the shielding power of the brand on your teeth.

The Marlboro Man was a favorite if only for another chance to THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN.

I think Paul Winchell and Jerry Mahoney made some ads. I was a big fan of Paul Winchell.

The maintenance verdict is that I will be getting a whole new AC shebang and thingamajig at the latest Thursday, hoping for tomorrow. I have the small portable "R2D2" AC in my bedroom and it can only get the temperature down to 76/77. I like the temperature down to 73/74. If I could afford it, I would set it lower. Looks like in the main the apartment is steady at 83. It's around 100/101 outside. I have drawn all the shades. The maintenance guys had to use my bedroom to place the AC because it needs to drain out a window. They placed plywood around the unused parts of the open window, but that also lets hot air in.  Since having cancer, I am far more sensitive to temperatures. Anything over 77 in a house is far too warm, even in the winter.

Sorry to hear about Jim Bailey.  I remember very clearly his appearance on the Carol Burnett Show in the 1970's.  He did a great impression of Barbra S.

The weatherman on TV said it's 22 degrees cooler this evening than it was last night at the same time.  It's 62 right now.  I love it!

NEW TV VIBES to DR GEORGE!

You'd be surprised how much you can watch on your computer. I know it's not the same as a big screen, but it works.

Thanks for all the dental vibes. I was there for four hours. Yes, the dentist was running late. His first patient was half an hour late and that got everything off to a late start. Then he learned that his wife was rear-ended and he was trying to deal with that, all while handling several complicated dental cases. I must say he multi-tasks very well and stayed calm throughout.

I had two old mercury amalgam fillings that I've been wanting removed for several years, but other, more-pressing issues kept coming up. I also wanted them removed properly, not just drilled out the way it used to be done. This dentist has all the latest equipment and is trained in safe mercury removal. (He's the second dentist I've met who has developed mercury toxicity due to his dental practice.) That meant that both he and his assistant wore respirators (they look like gas masks), there was oxygen flowing into the room throughout the drilling, I had on an oxygen mask, and there was a plastic piece in my mouth to help seal out mercury particles and vapor. All this may seem like overkill, but there is a growing number of dentists and patients who think it's the better approach.

Thank goodness that is over for you. Good to know that he's not the nervous type. It's bad enough to be at the dentist, no matter how nice they may be, but having Don Knotts hovering over you with a tooth drill is not a pleasant thought.

Don't know what's in my mouth, but I do remember receiving radio stations if I put my filled teeth a certain way.

Since the old fillings were relatively small I asked him if we could dispense with the numbing. He took a good look at them and said OK. I've had cold-turkey drilling before without a problem, but this was more involved and I wasn't at all sure that I was doing the right thing. But the last couple times a dentist--a different dentist--has numbed me I felt completely wiped out afterwards. There were a couple moments when I was on the verge of asking him to stop, but it didn't get any worse, so we got through it without numbing. It didn't take long at all.

Thanks, Jeanne.  I have a 22" (or maybe a 24") monitor, so I wouldn't mind that...it's just the idea of not being able to watch what's on my DVR on my monitor.  I can put my DVR upstairs in my bedroom with my other DVR, but I don't have a hi-def TV up there. :-\

I also have to keep track of what's set to record on my downstairs DVR.  I've set my upstairs DVR to record a couple of things (and several things are available through OnDemand), but again, I want my hi-def TV.
