I happen to love I Happen to Like New York. Those chords striking that hymn-like tone.
IMO, Porter's worst is I Sing of Love from Kiss Me, Kate.
Chacun a son gout! I'm quite fond of "We Sing of Love," which the last revisal of
Kiss Me, Kate proved that no one knew what to do with it. It's especially wonderful in the Tarantella dance arrangement, and I love "I Happen To Like New York." There are a lot of numbers between "Dubarry Was A Lady" and "Kiss me, Kate" that could compete for the worst Cole Porter song.
Maybe we should list the worst songs by major theatre composers: Sondheim, Irving Berlin, Rodgers, Kern, etc. they all have them. When we did the Victor Herbert Collected songs, I cut one titled something like "Indian Lullaby" because it was such a poor attempt to write something Native American. It was a complete embarrassment.
