The book discussion party was a success and the patriotic refreshments were a big hit.  Here's the entire table:

Ginny, it all looks very festive and quite delish!

OK, this is a really stupid question, but here goes:

If your cellphone is turned off, of course callers can still leave a voice message. But would calls show up on your call log, or as "missed calls," if the phone was off?

DR TCB's post last night just made me wonder.

I don't have a smart phone, so it may be different, but when my phone is turned off and someone leaves a voice message, I don't get the "missed call" icon on my display because the call never comes to my phone.  I do get the "unheard voice mail" icon on my display, and that's what lets me know that there's a message.

Thanks, DR George!  We laughed a lot about food and fashion of the late '50s/early '60s and shared our recollections of where we were during John Glenn's orbit, the first walk on the moon, and the Challenger disaster.

Yes, where IS dear reader Ben?  Is there something I don't know about - hiatus or something?

I'm up - I've been up a few times but got eight hours overall so that's good.

DR Ben's workplace is in the midst of a move to a new Manhattan location.  I suspect he's very involved with that.

Ginny, the jello looks lovely. I'll have a Florida-sized portion.

Thanks, DR John G!  Did you notice that I had to put a toothpick in to keep the red layer of Florida from sliding off?

In my CD player right now is the original Broadway cast recording to State Fair.  I don't know what I'll listen to next...yet.

I realized yesterday that 35 years ago on July 15, I moved into my apartment on 82nd Street.
...

So, you moved in there shortly after we saw Christine Andreas in OKLAHOMA when I was in NYC for ALA...

Yep! I was living on 94th Street and amsterdam from December 1 through July 14. The landlord was a horror who was later jailed for putting a hit on a tenant.  I hope he died there.

I haven't heard anything. Perhaps there's bee a family emergency on Long Island or Minnesota?

Thanks DR CHAS SMITH.

Most interesting DR JOHN G.....so two shows in a row have such a character.

Lovely refreshments DR GINNY.

DR RLP I can think of no astrological reason - perhaps Dr Freud should be consulted.

My friends thought it was there to mark the location of Cape Canaveral.

Well, this is an interesting announcement:  A Note About Our Coverage Of Donald Trump's 'Campaign'

Quote
After watching and listening to Donald Trump since he announced his candidacy for president, we have decided we won't report on Trump's campaign as part of The Huffington Post's political coverage. Instead, we will cover his campaign as part of our Entertainment section. Our reason is simple: Trump's campaign is a sideshow. We won't take the bait. If you are interested in what The Donald has to say, you'll find it next to our stories on the Kardashians and The Bachelorette.

My eye doctor's office confirmed that I am exactly the same place with my left eye that I was my right eye at 24 hours.  His assistant called the memory trick to be a result of the "Wow" factor.  The first surgery gives you the vivid colors and the sharpness of shapes, so you tend to view (pardon the pun) the progress differently.

Actually everything looks wonderful now.

Since BK announced the Previn show, I've been listening to k.d. lang's album, Drag, which features her cover of the Valley of the Dolls Theme. I'll be listening to that and to Kern's score for Very Warm for May, which is just brilliant.

You should have put a mini-hurricane warning flag on the toothpick!

Thank you for keeping Florida from sliding into the ocean, DR Ginny.

You're welcome, DR ChasSmith!  During the cleanup, several chunks of red Jello slid onto the kitchen floor...

Or a landslide warning!
