I blew off getting up at dawn's crack to go to one of the library book sales this morning.  It's about an hour drive from my place.  I still might go down later just to enjoy browsing through what's left.  It's one of the good sales and there's always ... something.

Saturday morning greetings!  I've been to see Tina for a much-needed haircut and to Lauren's to pick up a couple of dishes that Mary Linda and I left there after a family gathering.

Legally Blonde is the poster child for this discussion, whether you like it or not - it may be partly based on the novel, but its entire reason for existence is to call itself Legally Blonde and capitalize on that branding of the film.  Otherwise they would have called it something else - certainly they would have forty years ago like Promises, Promises.

Whereas as Ragtime is NOT the poster child for this - it really was based on the novel and that movie was never branded in any kind of way, plus it was not really part of this outrageous thing that's been going on for the last decade.

I'm up, six hours of sleep, she of the Evil Eye is here and I must go jog soon, unless I wait until the afternoon - but I think I'll just get it out of the way right now.

We are in Fairmont, MN.

I survived round one of DH's high school reunion last night. Cocktails and informal discussion.

Tonight is the formal dinner and "program," whatever that may entail.

Tomorrow is the concert for the anniversary of the local theatre group. THAT I am looking forward to!

A related point could be that the show seemed to become even more popular live in the theater (on Broadway, tour and London) after the musical  was aired on TV and available on video.  Maybe that means we are in an environment where the familiar sells tickets, assuming the work itself is entertaining.

There's a song there somewhere,  many vibes to you!

I want to rip this tooth right out of my head
I want to rip this tooth right out of my head
I want to rip this tooth right out of my head
And send it on its way

Good morning, all!

I am making an effort to overcome this current bout with depression and discontent.  I dislike the inertia of my existence and I'm spending far too much time fretting about the situation. Perhaps visiting friends out of town will help.

So, you're coming to Ohio?

The DH's mother does not do computers or Internet so there is no Wi-Fi anywhere nearby. But I have found that my smartphone can be enabled as a mobile hotspot, and that seems to work pretty well! Plus my work-issued laptop.

Maybe there will be accordion playing at the program tonight DR SINGDAW.  Or an audience participation portion of the evening.

For example, in recent years, I really love the LEGALLY BLONDE musical even more than the movie (it's a lot more real about the law school experience than the movie, for one thing)  but I gather that in reality the musical's as much based on the novel as based on the movie.

I never knew that there was a LEGALLY BLONDE novel.

BK, when you wrote in your notes, "Wednesday is a make-up rehearsal for two of the Kritzerland singers," the first thing that I thought was, "Your singers need a rehearsal to learn how to put on their make-up?"

Ha ha! After this week's tax situation, seeing my two brothers who got us into this property mess is the least thing on my mind.

It was the source for the film:

Doing a little searching, even though the movie was based on the novel, the book wasn't published until after the movie was released.  THIS article gives a convincing argument as to why the movie is actually better than the original book.  Just based on what the writer of the article says the book is like (since I never read it), I certainly agree with her.
