I think this must be a particularly severe allergy season. I've had only minor allergy problems since returning to California--until a few weeks ago. I don't get the runny nose or watery, itchy eyes, but the fatigue packs a wallop. I'm looking for additional ways to deal with this.

I notice that you are enjoying a Haagen-Dazs bar. How I used to love them! They were, in fact, responsible for many of the pounds that I gained a few years ago, thankfully now gone. Too addictive! I must stay away.

It was 90 degrees here today. Ugh! When I came home the apartment was 87 degrees. I have the AC on high AND the portable fan, and after two hours it's now 86. Tomorrow is forecast to be somewhat cooler. I hope so!

Re the Annette house, I don't like to see this happen, either. The blame, I feel, goes to the zoning boards, who approve massive changes to existing neighborhoods. A remodel is one thing, but I prefer to see renovation over total destruction. Even then, I feel that the exterior should be in keeping with the styles and scale of the neighborhood.

Lordy. I had an apartment with an AC unit that did about that much good for me. Said unit should have been taken out back and shot. I would say your apartment needs a new AC, DR Jeanne.

Are you on the top floor of your building? That doesn't help any, but a fully functioning AC of sufficient power should be able to counteract it just fine.

Not long after I moved to Alexandria, VA, the empty lot near my townhouse was sold and the developers wanted to build something that was completely inappropriate for the neighborhood. A group was formed to fight it. We succeeded. The new structures were smaller in scale than what was originally planned by the developers. Some didn't want anything build there at all, but that wasn't likely. The developers wanted as much square footage as they could possibly get, because that meant more profit for them. They were NOT pleased with our protests. But that was in Alexandria and was part of a historic district. LA's planning and zoning boards seem to be oblivious to historic preservation.

My apartment is on the second floor and has a west-facing window in the kitchen. The AC unit is only a few years old. It's a 110 window unit--not central air. It puts out cool air, but only for a few feet in front of it. I usually place the portable fan a few feet away, to try to blow the cool air over to the sofa. Lately, I've changed strategies and place the fan so that it blows right on me. I prefer being on the second floor, but my next digs will probably need to be ground floor. That will at least mean cooler temps inside.

That is extreme. Have you tried allergy shots or a medication, like a nasal spray, you stay on all the time?
