THE HILLS ARE OCCASIONALLY ALIVE

Well, you've read the notes, the notes, like the hills, were occasionally alive, and now it is time for you to post until the occasional cows come home.

I'm still up, but I've been home for a couple of hours.  After last night's rehersal, the director, the stage manager, the assistant stage manager, the sound designer, and I all stayed for about an hour and a half readjusting things, making more specific notes in scripts, adding a few more sound cues, adjusting the lengths of some sound cues, etc.

At first, it seemed like I probably could've left after the show was over, but I'm glad I stayed.  We got a lot of good work done.  At least as far as the sound cues go, we got to work on some of the details that you never get a chance to work on during a regular rehearsal.

Good morning, all! It is indeed a rainy, dreary day in Manhattan.  I have the laundry in the washers, and I'm, not going too far from home today.

I enjoyed the notes since my friend Ben Davis is playing Captain von Trapp. He was signed to record ROBERTA and then forced out by City Opera, I think the young man we finally cast, Patrick Cummings, was quite wonderful, so it worked out.

I'm not a big Ashley Brown fan and I deplore this trend of casting a Broadway person as the Mother Abbess and other R&H singing older women like Nettie in CAROUSEL; she's a mother figure to Maria and needs a voice with the heft of Patricia Neway or Birgit Nillson. Why is it the people casting these days never seem to listen to cast albums to hear what the composer chose?

One week from today is the Big Event, and to add to my stress, this morning I got an email from the Macbeths asking if they were welcome to attend it?  They saw the newspaper blurb.

My initial response was to reply IN A PIG'S EYE, but I am debating how to respond.  I think I will ignore this until I am back in Ohio. At this point there will be no peace negotiations between them and me.

Thank you, BK, for helping me come up with the subtitle on this one.

If you've been considering purchasing one of my last 3 Hollywood-based stage plays, collectively titled THE HOLLYWOOD SCANDALS, you will be happy to learn that all three are now available in one anthology, THE HOLLYWOOD SCANDALS: Three Plays About Tinseltown's Dark Side.

The price of this new volume is less than the cost of two of the plays if you purchased them individually.

The plays that we're talking about are B MOVIE, which deals with the sordid Franchot Tone/Barbara Payton/Tom Neal "lust triangle; SEXY REXY, the story of Rex Harrison and the women in his life, including actresses Carole Landis and Rachel Roberts, both of whom committed suicide; and LANA & JOHNNY WERE LOVERS, the story of superstar Lana Turner and her mobster boy friend, Johnny Stompanato.

The anthology is available in both paperback and Kindle editions.

Good morning, all.

Pulled another late one last night.  Well, a semi-late one.

Fortunately, thanks to Mr. Weatherman, I need have no guilt about staying in today.  And tomorrow.  And the day after that...

I saw a regional production of The Sound of Music. No curtain so we walk into the theater and see the Von Trappe villa right away. I think there was drop and set pieces for the convent. It was hard to tell the age of Mother Superior. Maria and the Captain were married to each other in real life so their believable factor as they fall in love was real. The kids cast locally were all very good and Elsa and Max were very good. I was glad to see she wasn't the bitch in the way Eleanor Parker played her in the film. It may have been the actor or the way he was directed but I found him too fey. It may have been the film factor here, but he did well with comedic lines

Very much enjoyed the detailed notes on the production, and am heartened to hear that there were some things to like about it.

Sixteen going on seventeen musicians, eh?  (And I wonder how many of those were on keyboards.)  Not enough for this show.

Agree with BK and DR Elmore on the Mother Abbess casting and sound handling things.  Why, Lord?

The original Broadway production had an orchestra of 33 players.

And I will spend some time today on my notes.

The laundry is finished, and I've turned on the AC to cool down the humidity in the apartment.  I've got most of my travel togs ready to pack.

I suppose it is nice they asked  :-\

I think it would be better for your brother to make an attempt to see you without mrs macbeth first.

Vibes dealing with, and or ignoring them.
