I am not sure if I should be terrified of the global warming and the imminent threat of the Island of long being submerged  a la Atlantis.... or  to just enjoy the nice weather

Just enjoy it.

I should have been packing but it is too glorious an evening not to have gone for a walk.

Yet another moron opens a Paypal dispute because he wants to know when his Victor Young Volume 2 is going to ship.  First, moron, it wasn't even slated to ship until the third week of December.  Second, moron, we're real easy to contact - our e-mail address is all over our website.  Third, moron, they came in early and were all shipped last Wednesday.  Now having that information, moron, have the decency to shut down the dispute.  Didn't happen.  Fourth, moron, here is your stinking tracking number which a) shows that it was sent exactly when I said it was, and b) that it's slated for delivery to you on Monday.  Shut down the damn dispute.  Nope, still there to annoy me, so I just wrote the moron a cherce e-mail and if it's not shut down by the time I get home from the Gardenia, he'll get an even more cherce e-mail and I will never accept another order from him.  Then I'll call Paypal on Monday and they'll shut it down - they now have the tracking number and it will show as delivered on Monday.  Buh bye, moron.

Oops, I haven't been sitting here like so much fish.  Left a while ago to warm up last night's turkey tetrazzini for dinner and then Richard and I went to the Kramers' for a champagne and dessert open house.  We saw many of my AAUW friends and many people from our former church.  We've been home about an hour and I just opened the computer to find myself still logged in.

Back from an omelet and a bagel.  Picked up a couple of packages - one contained the April 15, 1941 copy of Vogue.  I have been trying to find this issue for five years.  For a time I didn't even know WHAT issue it was of Vogue, all I knew was it was 1941 and Vogue came out twice a month in those days, so it was like a needle in a haystack.  I've had for some time a piece of original art and all I knew it was Vogue 1941 and the artist name of Milena Pavlović-Barili (she went by Milena).  I bought a few Vogue issues from that year with no luck finding it - I was told it was probably some kind of painting for an ad.  And Vogue back issues of that era are very pricey so I couldn't just keep buying without being sure.  Then about two years ago I Googled extensively and finally found a reference to the artist in a book on Amazon - and there was my painting, called Mound of Beauty and the exact issue it had appeared in.  Then I searched it regularly on eBay for two years solid - every other issue from that year eventually showed up, except mine.  I finally found it via Google and a back issue magazine dealer - it was reasonable and it's now mine.  Not an ad but a full page painting for an article on how to keep one's face beautiful.  The painting is small but stunningly realized - quite Dali-esque and simply gorgeous.  I'll put a photo of it in tomorrow's notes.

That's great, BK!  Congrats on the find!

TOD:

42nd Street was one jukebox musical that worked for me. Gower Champion and the writers simply took the Al Dubin-Harry Warren songbook and filled out the stage with song and movement and color. The story was slight to begin with, so the songs gave something hokey a little more emotional heft and fun.

I saw Smokey Joe's Cafe twice, and while I like the music, it was a better album than it was two hours+ in the theater. It was just one song after another with no dramatic push, no narrative, nothing but a first act of novelty songs and a second act of big hits. Yawn.

Wouldn't "Smokey Joe's Cafe" be considered a musical revue and not really a "jukebox musical"?  That, of course, has nothing to do with whether you liked it or not.  That's a separate issue.

;)

You're right, George. So here's another show that didn't work for me: nice Work if You Can Get It. Lumbering script and overused Gershwin songs shoehorned into unfunny situations. The Bwsy production only had Judy Kaye going for it.

For jukebox movie musicals, I must mention my illogical love for At Long Last Love.

As must I! :D

I am here at the theater with my dad.  Several other actors are here, so we're getting ready for our second and last night of reading.

So, now I must go.  After the show, I have to drive my dad home, then a friend and his husband are having a party, so I'll go to that...I'll be late to that, but it'll still be going on.

Have a good rest of the evening, all!

You didn't mention DR TCB, so it must not be the OLD actor's group.         ;)

Of course, pound cake has eggs and butter in it, so I really couldn't eat that, either.
