Went to usher for Robert Earl Keen's country Christmas show. They sold more beer at this event last year than any other event, so they set up six extra beer bars in the theater lobbies and then took trays of beers into the theater like it was a ballgame. And the people drank and drank and drank.

I only saw a little of the show, but I got to hear all of it. It's not my thing (I didn't know a single song and everybody else was singing along) but I could appreciate the musicianship. It was less Christmas than I thought it would be.

Yikes! :o Doesn't really sound like a very good listening experience.  Everyone else would annoy me too, too much.

That's how I'd feel, too. John G, you were brave to usher.

The other item of note is that tomorrow December 17 is the anniversary of when I first detected that I had cancer in 2012. Not that it is a celebratory anniversary, but that was the morning I noticed the lump on my neck. I had gone to bed the night before with nothing. I was just getting ready for work. Was not a festive holiday season to say the least. I spent New Year's in ICU.

That's frightening.

I've returned from Holy Trinity Catholic Church, which is acrpss from my apartment. I've prayed for my friend and I will go back every afternoon and pray for him.

I am living proof that prayer works. There were so many who prayed for me, even prayer groups that were friends of friends who were strangers to me at the time. I will pray too.

Or a real word:  bumptious

adjective
1. offensively self-assertive:
    a bumptious young upstart.

That sounds like a real HHW word. Not just the meaning, but the sound of the word, too.

I spent the bulk of yesterday at UCLA, having my last post-op. The surgeon said everything looks fine, which is what I expected. I do have some concerns, but they're minor--headaches, red eyes, etc. The doctor told me to resume one of the prescription eye drops to get rid of the redness. I did so today, only to immediately develop a headache over that eye. So much for the drops. I'll take red eyes over the headaches. At least my suspicions were confimed: it's the drugs.

I'm anxious to close the eye surgery chapter of my life. I still don't have driving glasses, but at least the medical side of things seems to be over.

I appreciate all the eye vibes you've all sent. My eyes thank you.

I took today as a Me day. That felt good! I'd like a month of Me days! That won't happen, but I'll try to have a few more before the year is over.

I could use a nap.

I'm going to take a nap a little later, after I get home.  A friend of mine asked if I wanted to see a movie tonight at the Olympia Film Society, but it starts at 9:00 pm.  That's not usually too late for me, but last night (actually, this morning), I couldn't fall asleep and got much less sleep than I usually get. :P I really will need to take nap so that I can stay awake for the movie.

It looks like you're having a nice vacation, DR Jane!

So far it is pretty good.  Tonight we ate at the oldest restaurant in San Juan. It is a lovely old place, which is why we walked in.  We had no idea of the history until we were seated.  For the first time we had plantain soup which is the consistancy of pea soup.  It was yummy.

I still can't find a charger for my nook.  Keith has turned the sound off on his iPad so I do no accidentally wake him while I am reading tonight.  One little problem, Siri does not recognize that and if I tap too long to switch to here from my library book I make scary noises,

Richard and I had a very fruitful shopping trip and, aside from a few stocking stuffers, I'm pretty much finished.  Friday I'll go to the grocery for baking supplies and will be able to spend the weekend and Tuesday and Wednesday in the kitchen and at the package-wrapping table.  On Monday, I'm having breakfast with Becky for her birthday and will make a stop at Barnes & Noble for a few odds and ends.

Keith might look to see if he can, or I will only read and not play on the iPad while he sleeps.
