Network television has gone to hell, and it wasn't in any stinking hand basket.  No sir!  A great big HUGE semi backed up and loaded what used to be "entertainment" and drove it away.

I watched all 10 episodes of Amazon's "The Man in the High Castle" over the weekend.

I thought it was well done for the most part and some of the performances are exceptional.  Well, actually...Rufus Sewell is superb.  Others are really good, chief among them being Luke Kleintank and Rupert Evans.  (The female lead seemed somnambulistic to me...as non-charismatic a performer as I've ever seen in a leading role).

I remember having read this Philip K. Dick novel way back when...30 or 40 years ago.  Oddly, though, the story unfolds in a way that I couldn't relate to.

Now I know why....they've pulled an "Under the Dome" on us:  That means they've "based" the presentation on the Dick novel but they have altered plot devices and characters and character relationships.

Bottom line:  In the name of entertainment (and stretching out a one-season story into two seasons), the "writers" have "re-written" Dick's story to serve their own ends.  They've indicated the second season will wrap things up, so I will watch that, as well.

What's next?

I spent an hour or two last night listening to CDs.  First time in a VERY LONG TIME that I have done that.

Among the musical delights:  The Fifth Dimension, Carly Simon, Anthony Warlow and the soundtrack to "Return to Oz".

Facilitating my diversion is my new Bose Soundwave IV....very easy to us and surprisingly excellent sound.

Tuesday morning greetings!  I've been to the AAUW book sale site to deliver several boxes of books and assorted other items.  My friends wouldn't let me stay to work - sorting and pricing - because they said I didn't need to be around all that dust.  They had plenty of workers, so I've come home to do some computer work on their behalf.

I rarely go back and read posts later in the day, but sometimes I remember to go back days later and see what was said. I finally got around to reading posts from March 5th.
I, too, was taught to clean my plate. When I first started trying to lose weight last year, I got a package of leftover containers from Smart and Final and snuck them into restaurants. When my food arrived, I immediately split it in half before I even started eating. Thus, I would always leave a clean plate. Now sometimes, I sheepishly ask the waiter to bring me a to-go container when he brings our food and I just wait for it before I start eating. If I tried to just eat only half after the food arrived, that wouldn't work. It tasted too good and I couldn't stop eating.

I have requested a container for food splitting at the beginning of a meal.  I have done that more offten for desset, just taking a couple of bites and then putting it away for the next day or two.

At the Cheesecake Factory, I always order dessert in a to-go container.  A few bites at a time is all you need and I can make a slice of their cheesecake last 2 or 3 days.

The problem with the Cheesecake Factory is we only eat there when traveling.  If I order the cake I eat most of it since I can't take the leftover home.

Last night on GET TV - the episode of the The Judy Garland Show they showed was one of the later ones.  Judy sang ALONE for more than half of the show.  Then Vic Damone came on and did a song....then Judy and Vic did some duets....then Judy closed the show.

It was a great format for her - too bad so many of the early episodes were following a formula that worked for others but not for her.  By this time, she was already on the way out....

We then had The Jim Nabors special....his first for CBS.....which was fun.  Then an episode of The Merv Griffin Show featuring the wives of stars modeling fashions.  First one wife came on in the original, then another wife came on in the same dress made from a Vogue Pattern.....

Dolly Read (Mrs. Dick Martin) and Kitty Franciscus (Mrs. James Franciscus), Mrs. Dean Martin - the young blonde girl and a woman whose name I didn't get....an older blonde, Clint Eastwood's first wife - Rosemarie Bowe (Mrs. Robert Stack), Larraine Stephens (Mrs. David Gerber), Candy Spelling (Mrs. Aaron Spelling) and Altovise Davis (Mrs. Sammy Davis, Jr).

Interesting.....I didn't know Larraine was married to a producer, Altovise talked mostly about how much Sammy loved her and how important she was to his career, Dolly tried to be funny and sexy, the young Mrs. Dean Martin smoked all the time and talked about how "legal" problems prevented her marriage for many years....it was a strange episode.

Thanks DR JANE....the facades change, but most things are pretty much the same.  Of course the tenants in the buildings also change regularly.

TOD - Detroit, not the town where I was born, but where I grew up.  In the fall of 1962, the Ford Rotunda burned to the ground and in 1998 the downtown J. L. Hudson department store was imploded.  Both structures were iconic and very much a part of my childhood and adolescence.

The largest shopping mall in Germany is basically across the street.  I walked over to see it. Nothing unusual as far as I could tell.  I also walked to the Metronom Theater, where Phantom is playing.  I decided I was too tired to see it tonight.

TOD:  it's before my time, but the destruction of the Larkin  Building in Buffalo is mourned to this day.  The architect was Frank Lloyd Wright.

I'm up, I'm up.  Trying not to have allergy problems.  I got almost eight hours of sleep and then had a long telephonic conversation.  Two contributions this morning but they didn't take us beyond 89%.

I finally did pull myself together and get to market.  I now have a lot of veggies in the fridge and apples on the table.  I'll walk over to the corner bodega in a bit and pick up a dozen eggs and water.
