DR CHAS SMITH we do not use tracks at our theatre.  BUT in this neck of the woods, pianists are difficult to find.  We now are at the point of auditions next Sunday, and no pianist for the first 11 rehearsals to follow.  We have asked several people.  It's the main reason I don't like to direct a musical here....you can't get a piano player.

You would think in a college town, ONE person would say yes.

Our pianist is doing a show at the local high school.  Everyone we ask says no....eventually....usually after leaving us hanging for several days....so I can see why some groups just say.....to hell with it.....

For "The HEAD! That Wouldn't DIE!!" last December, we had to use pre-recorded tracks...there wasn't enough room in the space for musicians.  In Janary, we did use live musicians for the fund raiser.

I'm up, I'm up - other than being up for an hour at five-thirty, I think I got nine hours.  Unfortunately at five-thirty I almost threw up (but didn't) and that really trashed my throat from coughing.  Hopefully that will go away quickly but it feels trashed right now. The Excedrin PM worked really well and other than being groggy this is the first morning (or afternoon now) that I didn't wake up with a raging headache.

After reading the Notes, I was wondering why theaters use tracks at all--other than cost. JRand's situation hadn't occurred to me; I hope that pianists aren't difficult to find elsewhere.

How much does does it cost to have a real pianist and a real piano?

The problem with that is that most non-profit community theaters would want instrumentalists to volunteer their time like everyone else involved in non-profit community theater, but the instrumentalists won't.  It's their job. :-\

Today, the family is getting together at my parents' house for tacos and game playing.  I'm sure some chocolate will also be consumed, but after the tacos, not with the chocolate.

WHAT?! No chocolate tacos?? A good, ole American tradition.

No chocolate tacos.  Sounds good, though!  We did have chocolate creme pie.  It was store-bought, but very good

The cake is beautiful.

It is, indeed!  My sister-in-law brought a bunny cake for our dessert - chocolate cake with coconut icing.  We saved the face for me to take to Mom tomorrow.

I think it is sweet you saved the face for your mother.  Did you take a photo of the cake?

We had been threatened with a cold rainy weekend..but instead it was beautiful, sunny and temps in the high 60's

Nice and I would have liked to see the cute boys in their fedoras.

This morning, I was channel surfing on TV and came across "The Full Monty" and just started watching it.  I looked around the DVR program guide to see what was coming on later and I noticed a show on AXS TV (never noticed the channel before) that was on today that said it was a musical, so I recorded it.  It's called Last Night a DJ Saved My Life.  It's a live production that stars and wa executive produced by David Hasselhoff and features songs from the 80s.  Here's the description from the website:
Quote
The Hoff, plays Ross, a hilarious hedonist. He’s Ibiza’s top 80’s DJ who doesn’t realize a new decade has dawned, disco is out, a new club scene is in.

He tries to keep up with the times and with Mandy, his new younger girl-friend (Kim Tiddy, from ‘The BillHollyoaks’), but matters are complicated when his teenage daughter Penny (Stephanie Webber From TV’s ‘The Voice’) arrives to stay. Father and daughter haven’t seen each other for three years, since a messy divorce. No longer a demure school girl, but a wild child who quickly falls for Rik, the holiday rep (Shane Richie Junior).

It’s the story of two generations colliding, as a badly behaved parent, tries to control a wild child teenager! This hilarious hit fest is also a touching father and daughter drama, set against the holiday island background of Ibiza!

Firstly, it's not funny in the least.  Secondly, no one (especially "The Hoff") can act, at all.  The singers (except "The Hoff") have good voices but it's just a big giant mess.  The songs make no sense and the "book" is a joke, and not in the good way.  I wonder if they wanted to make something like "Mamma Mia" where the audience would like the music and forgive everything that's lacking.

Avoid this like the plague! :P

Getting to my cousin's house required driving through an insane storm of rain, sleet, hail, and even some snow.

We had a lovely dinner of ham, potato casserole, asparagus, salad, and rolls; with lemon
meringue pie for dessert.

And the trip home required us to travel thru another storm, almost as severe as the one on the way there.

George would understand when I say that the storms were both located where I-90 and Hwy 18 merge near Issaquah.  Basically we were traveling several hundred feet below Snoqualmie Pass where they were experiencing an unexpected snowstorm that dumped 8 inches of snow and thus closing the pass.

Issaquah is where Fred and Skip came to workshop their musical, THE LAST STARFIGHTER.

Well, Fred and Skip didn't come to the town square to present their musical.  I should have said The Village Theater in Issaquah is where Fred and Skip came to workshop their musical, THE LAST STARFIGHTER.

I am tired tonight.  I don't usually drive that far in one day, especially going thru the two big storms.  But I am also amped up tonight, so who knows if I will be able to sleep.
