I'm glad I took the day off to do taxes, which I finished earlier this week. I slept an extra hour and took a nap. The rest of the time has been largely wasted. I should treat myself to this more often.

This is a question for the class.  I'm curious about something that I need to decide for myself now:

Those of you who are receiving Social Security income --

Do you have them withhold for taxes, or do you manage that some other way?  I realize this must depend on a LOT of different factors that aren't anyone else's business, but I'm just wondering what the general practice is.

Do you have them withhold for taxes, or do you manage that some other way?  I realize this must depend on a LOT of different factors that aren't anyone else's business, but I'm just wondering what the general practice is.

I have taxes taken out.  The Social Security payments are exempt from state taxes, but not from federal.

TOD:  a Twilight Time blu-ray for which I'd only looked up a few credits and said yeah baby, I'll take my chances on this:

The Happy Ending, a 1969 Richard Brooks movie.  I popped it in yesterday for a quick preview, and about ten seconds into the main title music I had the biggest damned smile on my face.  It opens on beautiful nighttime images of a lovely mid-20th-century downtown (which I didn't immediately recognize but it's Denver) and a FABULOUS score by Michel Legrand.  In that opening minute or so, the music had me lifted into a place just about equal to that of a Jacques Demy film -- which was amusing, when, not an hour later, I turned on TCM to see what I could fall asleep to and what's starting up but The Young Girls of Rochefort.  It's a sign, I tell you.  A sign.

So, I don't know what to expect from the storyline of the film, whether it's a romance or romantic comedy or a weepie or what have you.  The fun will be in finding out.

I didn't know that about the state taxes, so that's great to hear.

Sorry to have been E & T we are having my Dad's funeral next Friday and I have been busy with getting everything sorted.  The service is planned but we are having a luncheon back at the church after the internment and I have been getting that organized.

Sorry.  I don't recall it being bad the year we were there.  I remember just before we moved there a sales tax began.  It wasn't too bad at the time and clothing under $50 was not taxed.
