Having my Friday morning Espresso Shake...courtesy of Get Goes Mobile Cafe.   They are only nearby one day a week...Fridays at 10 a.m.  We have quite the gathering around the truck...and the Espresso Shake is delicious.

I just revisited some posts I made in March 2004.  From March 9, in response to some question someone asked, I posted:

Favorite MGM numbers:

"Slaughter on 10th Avenue" Ballet -- Words and Music
"Thou Swell" -- June Allyson -- Words and Music
"Where's That Rainbow?? -- Ann Sothern -- Words and Music
"Buckle Down Winsocki" -- Tommy Dix -- Best Foot Forward
"Alive and Kickin'" -- Nancy Walker -- Best Foot Forward
"You Stepped Out of A Dream" -- Tony Martin -- Ziegfeld Girl
"You've Never Looked So Beautiful Before" -- Ziegfeld Girl
"This Heart of Mine" -- Fred Astaire -- Ziegfeld Follies
"Limehouse Blues" Ballet -- Ziegfeld Follies
"Swing Trot" (Opening of film under credits) -- Barkleys of Broadway
"The Pirate" Ballet -- The Pirate
"Begin the Beguine" (2nd part) -- Broadway Melody of 1940
"Drum Crazy" -- Easter Parade
"The Varsity Drag" (big dance before finale) -- Good News
"Pass That Peace Pipe" -- Joan McCracken -- Good News
"Broadway Ballet" -- Singin' in the Rain
"Girl Hunt Ballet" -- The Band Wagon
"Baubles, Bangles and Beads" -- Kismet
"Sawdust and Spangles and Dreams" -- Billy Rose's "Jumbo"
"Silk Stockings" (Charisse dance) -- Silk Stockings
"Heather on the Hill" -- Brigadoon
"An American in Paris" Ballet -- An American in Paris
"On the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe" -- The Harvey Girls
"The Trolley Song" -- Meet Me in St. Louis
"Follow the Yellow Brick Road" -- The Wizard of Oz
"Ding-Dong the Witch is Dead" -- The Wizard of Oz
"Dear Mr. Gable/You Made Me Love You" -- Broadway Melody of 1938 (?)
"Main Street" -- On the Town
"Miss Turnstiles" Ballet -- On the Town

And in a class by itself:

"Madam Bovary Waltz" -- Madam Bovary

What fun!  And nothing has changed in the past 12 years apropos of my favorite MGM numbers!!!

Unexpected comment from former DR Mike Barnum in a Facebook post today:

This morning I learned something new -- a computer monitor can catch on fire.

Happily, it was at work and no one was hurt.

I wonder if FDR MBarnum captured some photographic evidence.

I'm glad I took the day off to do taxes, which I finished earlier this week. I slept an extra hour and took a nap. The rest of the time has been largely wasted. I should treat myself to this more often.

This is a question for the class.  I'm curious about something that I need to decide for myself now:

Those of you who are receiving Social Security income --

Do you have them withhold for taxes, or do you manage that some other way?  I realize this must depend on a LOT of different factors that aren't anyone else's business, but I'm just wondering what the general practice is.

I have taxes taken out.  The Social Security payments are exempt from state taxes, but not from federal.

TOD:  a Twilight Time blu-ray for which I'd only looked up a few credits and said yeah baby, I'll take my chances on this:

The Happy Ending, a 1969 Richard Brooks movie.  I popped it in yesterday for a quick preview, and about ten seconds into the main title music I had the biggest damned smile on my face.  It opens on beautiful nighttime images of a lovely mid-20th-century downtown (which I didn't immediately recognize but it's Denver) and a FABULOUS score by Michel Legrand.  In that opening minute or so, the music had me lifted into a place just about equal to that of a Jacques Demy film -- which was amusing, when, not an hour later, I turned on TCM to see what I could fall asleep to and what's starting up but The Young Girls of Rochefort.  It's a sign, I tell you.  A sign.

So, I don't know what to expect from the storyline of the film, whether it's a romance or romantic comedy or a weepie or what have you.  The fun will be in finding out.

I didn't know that about the state taxes, so that's great to hear.

Not all states.
"The 13 states that tax Social Security are Colorado, Connecticut, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont and West Virginia."

Sorry to have been E & T we are having my Dad's funeral next Friday and I have been busy with getting everything sorted.  The service is planned but we are having a luncheon back at the church after the internment and I have been getting that organized.

Well, you always hear that Connecticut is NOT a state to retire in.  And my state taxes were already rough this year.

I'm loving the blow-by-blow account of the revue rehearsals.

April 15th - only three more days until Tax Day!

Fred, have you heard anything about this?  Elizabeth Warren thinks the IRS should fill out your tax returns.  What do you think?

It's not an animated gif anymore.  This latest version of the board has a different eye-roll smilie/emoticon.

Sorry.  I don't recall it being bad the year we were there.  I remember just before we moved there a sales tax began.  It wasn't too bad at the time and clothing under $50 was not taxed.
