Well, you've read the notes, the notes had a man bun, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they currently have a MOOn bun.

TOD

Unless a play has been retought/reimagined for film many of the plays into films have not worked for me. The following are only original productions of the plays that I have seen that were made into films.

Amadeus: Same story but completely rethought for the film. If memory serves the play only has three speaking characters.

Torch Song Trilogy: Shorten for the film. Too bad Estelle Getty didn't get to do the film. Act 1 & 2 were reimagined for the film as they were more "Theatrical in nature"

These two plays are one set and almost worked, but failed as film.
Deathtrap (really hated the changed ending of the story). Wasn't crazy about the casting of all the roles.
Noises Off. Could really capture or achieve the frenetic pacing of act two and watching a play within a play didn't work on film.

I set the alarm for 7:00, but I reset it for 8:00 and went back to bed.  Around 7:45, I decided to get moving.  I'll go intro City Center, see if there are any emergency fixes I can help Joshie accomplish.  If there's nothing to do, I'll head back home.

I think "Arsenic and Old Lace" is a pretty good match, even including some of the original cast in the film.
"The Man Who Came To Dinner"
"Cyrano de Bergerac," with Depardieu

PBS showed "The Philadelphia Story," with Hepburn, Grant, and Stewart. I like both it and "Holiday," but I've never seen either play on stage.

I thought the film of "Amadeus" was nothing like the play I saw on Broadway with Ian MacKellan, which had a large cast. I liked the film better.

I, too, saw VIRGINA WOOLF at the Biltmore w/Nancy Kelly and Shepard Strudwick.

Indeed, I think I saw it within the first few weeks after I moved to Los Angeles, which was the first week of November of 1963.

Terrific production, but the recording was better.

I got to know Ken Kercheval years later when he did the DALLAS TV series. Nice guy.

I was representing Steve Kanaly during that period.

Must leave right away to get on with some family stuff.

I like the TOD and look forward to people's answers.

Agree with BK that there is something "off" about the Virginia Woolf movie in spite of its general greatness.  And yes, perhaps the "tenor" of the score contributes to that.  I'm going to work on that when I get back home and watch it.

The Man Who Came to Dinner surprised me.  After laughing throughout the play Keith rented the movie.   I tried to prepare him but failed.   Close to halfway through the movie he sadly commented we weren't laughing much and turned it off.

I love man buns. Because no matter how awful I look after hiking in the mountains, at least I don't have a man bun.

The best thing about the movie is Jimmy Durante.

TOD:

Barefoot in the Park and The Odd Couple - I like both plays and both movies.

Desk Set the movie was SO different from the play Desk Set that it's like two different stories, but I like them both.

I don't think Noises Off worked on the screen either, but I did laugh a bit at some of the antics.

I don't know that I've ever seen a play that I saw later as a movie. But there's two movies I can think of that are basically filmed plays that I enjoyed very much:
Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean
A Case of Libel

Oh wait! I just thought of one. I saw "Twelve Angry Men" first as a play and then a movie. I thought the movie was well-done.

Monday morning greetings!  Cool and dreary here in SW Ohio today, which allowed me to sleep until after 8:30am - a sleep-in for me.  Puttering around the house until it's time to go to the AAUW end-of-year dinner at a nearby church.
