With all this talk about the time shown on this site, I finally changed mine to Eastern time (from Pacific).

You have been on Pacific time since you became a DR?  ;D

Monday evening greetings!  We've had a lovely day of sightseeing in Nashville!  We took a taxi downtown where we joined an Old Town Trolley tour at stop 3 in front of the Johnny Cash Museum.  Rode the whole tour and finally bought tickets back at stop 1.  Started over and rode as far as Ryman Auditorium, where we got off to take the backstage tour and eat a late lunch in the nice cafe.  Got back on the trolley and rode all the way around again with a different guide.  Shopped a bit at the GooGoo Cluster store and walked to the nearest hotel for a taxi back to our hotel (out by the airport).

When you get home you will have to watch Nashville, the greatest film of the 1970s in my book!

One of my faves, too, DR Elmore!  And it will be fun to watch again now that we've seen these places in person.  Also want to watch some of the biopics - Coal Miner's Daughter, Sweet Dreams, etc.

DR Jane, we'd never been here, either.  I'd come again, but maybe in the spring or fall because it's pretty hot now.  It could have been worse, but we weren't much interested in a lot of outdoor walking.

The first time that I'd heard of the Ryman Auditorium was in the TV show "Nashville."  I didn't realize at first that it was a real place.

Back from all manner of things.  Had a Chinese chicken salad and a bagel for lunch, then we did a Costco run and then picked up a couple of tiny packages.  At Costco I bought a new vacuum cleaner - very lightweight, inexpensive, and, best of all, these days no need for bags to buy and throw away, and why they hadn't thought of that before is anyone's guess.  I've had the same vacuum cleaner since I moved in there almost twelve years ago, so it was time and I think she of the Evil Eye will be delighted after she learns how to use it - the helper's coming Saturday morning to show her.

The things that I don't like about my bagless vacuum cleaner are the filter (I have to pound it on the ground outside to kind of clean it off every once in a while); and when I empty the collection chamber, the dust and debris can go all over the place.  I hate that. :P

Ringo Starr performed there last night.

The first time around on the trolley I was thinking it would be nice to hear some live music while we're here, but we're not much for nightlife and didn't want a loud, boozy place.  Lo and behold, there was a nice young man named Matt Marinchick playing singing and playing quiet guitar in the cafe where we ate lunch.  Just right!

A GooGoo Cluster store? I think I'm in love.

Amen. Every time I watch it, I'm more and more awestruck by how well Altman juggles the various stories and keeps the pace moving. It's more than 3 hours long and it feels less than half that length. And what a cast!

A contractor at work is leaving tomorrow on his vacation. A road trip to California by way of Tuscon. I told him the temperatures and showed him DR Laura's picture of the thermometer. He's not so excited to be going any more.

Watching another laugh-free screwball comedy, "The Doctor Takes a Wife," with Loretta Young and Ray Milland.

The pacing, at least, is funny, or it feels as if it should be funny. The script doesn't work.

When I used to record books for the blind, I was assigned to read "Hound of the Baskervilles,"  It was quite riveting although I was not allowed to read it dramatically (which considering my acting skills was a probably a good thing).

I've been at work all day, but now it's past time for me to not be at work anymore.  I'm heading home.

Be back later.

TOD:

In addition to many of the titles mentioned, I'd add "They Might Be Giants."

My favorite actors to play Holmes are Basil Rathbone, Benedict Cumberbatch, Nicol Williamson and Jeremy Brett.
