Watching a really funny screwball comedy called Too Many Husbands with Jean Arthur, Fred MacMurray and Melvyn Douglas. They're both married to her and some fairly sexually tinged (for the 1940s) hijinks ensue.

It was remade later as Three for the Show with Jack Lemmon, Betty Grable and the Champions. But it lacks the charm of this dizzy delight of a movie.

TOD - when I was 12 my parents and I went on a New England vacation that included a week of camping on Mt. Desert Island.  On the 4th of July, we watched the fireworks from the pier in Bar Harbor and all the boats anchored off shore blew their horns in appreciation of the show.

That concert video is taking me on a whole unexpected train-of-thought trip down memory lane.  I'll explain later when I'm on the computer and can type a lot easier.

Has anyone in this group read an author named Catherine Schine?

Cathleen Schine?  I have not, but we heard her newest book reviewed very favorably on FRESH AIR during our drive home.  It appealed to me, but not to Richard.

Thanks. Yes, it's Cathleen. She and Jane Smiley are members of a Facebook group about Anthony Trollope, and they recently did a book signing together in which they discussed their love of Trollope as well as their current works.

The DD's and I have have been out for a dual walk.  No violence ensued so I'm always thankful for that.  DD Ben just won't relax around little DD Leo.  He snaps at him if they are off leash and are near each other.  We are getting better, however, and I realize it's a process and Papa's patience is always tested!

I love A Thousand Acres!  Never had an urge to see the film.  i'd rather watch King Lear.

So, treats have been distributed and laundry has been started.  We are listening to Cats as Papa does stuff around the apartment.   I need to take my Ford Explorer in for a smog check.  4 months overdue.   I hope it passes because I won't have much time after today and before August.

TOD:
I've gone to many 4th of July parties over the years. I don't know that any one was particularly more fun or memorable than any other. So, I would have to say the most unique 4th of July I ever had was going to an Oakland A's baseball game with my dad and husband-at-the-time and then staying for the fireworks afterwards.
Mark claims the best fireworks we ever saw were in the town of Ojai, but I don't remember being particularly blown away by them.
Since our dog past away a couple weeks ago and we don't have to worry about her freaking out anymore, I think we'll make the 50-minute hike on foot over to the Janss mall to see the fireworks tonight. The weather is nice and we could use the exercise. We can't drive there because the traffic is so bad after the fireworks are over that it takes longer to drive home than walk home.

I've read several works of Jane Smiley's.

I was going to rave about the heartbreaking The Short History of a Prince, but I realized it was by Jane Hamilton!

Still, a beautiful novel.

What a lovely photo DR GINNY.  We should all take photos all the time......they become even more wonderful and precious as time passes.

Personal digital photography is one of the greatest innovations of the past couple of decades!

For the 1876 melodrama section of our float, DR Elmore dressed me as the heroine.  It was 40 years ago - where did my waistline go?

Very nice pictures, Ginny!

Today, my sister's boyfriend is going to come over to my place with his laptop to record a hi-def movie from my DVR onto his laptop so that he can make a Blu-ray of it.  It's Bette Midler's "Divine Madness" concert film, and it's never been released on Blu-ray.  The TCM broadcast is also the original theatrical version, which has two songs never released on either the VHS or DVD versions (although one is on the album).  He'll make sure it works and then just let it record.  Then, we'll both go to my parents' for a 4th of July barbecue with the visting relatives from Gemany.

Thanks, DR George!  It was so hot that day, especially in a corset and bustle.  But we had fun, even if we were robbed of first place in the float competition.

DR George, let us know how that recording goes.  I don't have a Blu-ray burner (yet) but would nevertheless like to know how these things are done.
