Congratulations to DR RLP on his millstone.  I am looking forward to his experience with the BOSE.

I am also looking forward to his retirement experience.  Will you be buying your own home in N.C. or living with others?

I will be taking over a portion of my mother's house.   Actually, it's now "my" house.  All upkeep will be on me once I move in.

It's in Johnston, SOUTH Carolina, by the way!  ;)

Oy and vey - I'm up.  I slept about forty-five minutes (after the two hours I got prior to that), then let the fence people in the yard, then went back to bed.  I think I fell asleep again a bit after ten and just woke up, so maybe I got five hours-plus of sleep.  Feeling a bit trashed.

I know it's a strange reaction....and I can't explain it.  But I put the Unsung Sherman Brothers CD in.  Within the first two measures of the first song....I started to cry because it was so wonderful and joyful.  I am NOT prone to exaggeration in general....but these songs are magical.....

I think The 13 Clocks would have been a CLASSIC film and score - it would have earned it.  It's not the processed CGI/Pixar crap we get now....the stories are all basically the same - just different dumb characters trying to overcome silly odds.....fart jokes and tasteless "humor."

And the songs are all the same and in the same place in the movies.....and there has to be one BIG BELT song to be sung by some screeching Broadway diva whose physiognomy will not allow her to have a screen career.....

"Instant classic" is not possible - even though they are all advertised as such.

I told Keith about your move and said I figured you would move in with your mother.  I also wondered if you would become the owner, or co-owner.  I am glad you answered my questions without my having to ask them :)

To answer your question, DR FJL, I haven't heard anything about Freaky Friday (at the Signature Theatre in Arlington, VA) except what I've read online.   I am thinking of seeing it over the weekend, though, and will let you know what I think of it if I do.

Power wash is finished - amazing what a difference it makes - cobwebs all gone, dirt all gone, front entrance really nice and now all ready for Halloween and the holidays.

Was trying to listen to some wonderful Dello Joio music - impossible due to the completely inept recording, which I'm finding is the case with a lot of the newer 90s and 2000s digital crap.  It's distant miked so there's absolutely no orchestral detail at all, the dynamics on the CD range from impossible to hear at all to almost acceptable but not quite.  The Peter Maxwell Davies was exactly the same.  Then you listen to Air Power by Dello Joio, from Columbia Records recorded in stereo in 1958 and it puts all this modern crap to shame - it's alive, vibrant, and filled with detail.  This horrid Dello Joio CD has great music on it but you would not know it from these inept performances and sound - and this conductor, who had his ten minutes with American music, one James Sedaris, has ruined so much great music.  But speaking of inept, even Leonard Bernstein and the NY Phil had off days, recording-wise - one of the worst is his performance of Randall Thompson's amazing second symphony.  He simply hasn't the feel for it - Bay Cities put it out in horrid mono sound but that performance is fantastic in terms of feel and intention - and the NY Phil is ragged on it to boot - I also didn't think much of the other selections on that CD - a Roy Harris symphony and a David Diamond symphony.  Normally Bernstein is great with American music, but not here, at least in my opinion.

Well, it's time for me to leave work and go to the theater.  Tonight is our last Friday performance.  We also had scheduled a 10 pm show, but since no tickets were sold on-line by this afternoon, we cancelled the performance.  We have an 8 pm and a 10 pm show tomorrow night also, but that late show may also be cancelled if no one shows up.  Both 8 pm shows have tickets sold, so those will go on as scheduled.

Until later!

We discovered power washing at our Ashland home.

We went to Beaches probably our favorite restaurant here.  It is fun and the staff if very friendly.  With the change in seasons it was slower than usual there which meant the staff was extra attentive.  A manager we have never met before stopped by to visit and said if the ingredients were available for the Asian salad they would make it even though it was not on the menu.  I had the asian salad with grilled salmon and Keith had their Beach salad with grilled salmon.

For starters we had edamame with drinks.  I like the cadillac margarita's there as they come in a smaller glass and are very tasty, usually.  Tonight mine was like they made them when we first moved here, exceptionally good. :)
