Got another Finzi CD - now THIS is the Finzi I remember and love - gorgeous music - don't know how I missed it in the closet.  Also have listened to more Holst - I do think his magnum opus is The Planets - but I enjoy some of the other stuff.

The other interesting thing about this Finzi CD - it has two pieces that were on the other one and I thought they were merely okay but I kept them to give them another listen at some point.  Well, sometimes it's all in the sound and performance - the other CD's renditions of these two pieces are terrible - drawn out, each a minute to a minute-thirty longer and with that awful distant sound.  Hearing this beautifully conducted and with the orchestral detail in full bloom - night and day, baby, night and day.  I has spoken.

Oh, and conductor on the good one is someone named Sir Adrian Boult, only one of the greatest conductors of the 20th century and someone who knew his English music better than just about anyone.
