We needed those 40 minutes to beat the Portland rush hour traffic .  Fingers crossed it won't be bad.

Thursday afternoon greetings!  I got up very early to accompany Fr. Richard to the opening mass for the clergy conference because we'd been told that his "transfer of orders" to this denomination would be acknowledged during the service.  It took 90 minutes and no acknowledgement.  He stayed for the meetings and I called a taxi to take me downtown to the Library of Virginia where I spent several hours trying to expand my sister's genealogy research.  I found some preliminary evidence on our great great great great great grandfather, but nothing that would count as proof of anything.  I am now back at our hotel.

Good afternoon. Today I gave a talk about gardening for butterflies to the ladies who lunch. I wanted to ask for a vodka stinger.

Maybe you should have talked about gardening for bumble bees...if you wanted a stinger, that is!  ;)

Keith wants to know where your ancestors are from.

Right where I am right now, more or less.  Stephen Ellis, our 4th great-grandfather died in Goochland County, which we drove through yesterday (and will again tomorrow).  He was born in Surry County, VA, closer to Jamestown, where we think it all began for our paternal line in the New World.

Welcome to greater Cincinnati, DR ChasSmith - even though we're not there!  How long will you be there?

I think for some of these visits, when I don't have to make stops to see other relatives, I'm going to start flying over.  I really love driving, but this one is l-o-n-g and not getting any shorter.

And we wouldn't know any of it without my sister's devoted research.   She's done a fabulous job!

What's your favorite way to eat duck?

Do those Peeps they make for Easter count?  Or are they not ducks?  :)

Define duck however you will.

Listening to Randall Thompson's first symphony - the only version available, on Koch - of all those terrible recordings, this one is thankfully okay, and isn't distant miked.
