Page three?  Really?  REALLY?  I come home from over seven hours of comping vocals and we're ONE post on page three?

Just finished Season 1 of "A Place to Call Hime," and I am off to bed.

[Jane]

 We just watched the recent version of ANNE OF GREEN GABLES  with Martin Sheen. 

[Jane]

I am coughing a wee bit less at the moment.  I fear once I move it will begin again.

[John G.]

Spent a very long day doing way too much.

[John G.]

The best part of it was helping serve a barbecued dinner to the homeless at our Haven for Hope.

[John G.]

The church I was helping out, not my own, spent the night smoking brisket and sausage, making rice and beans and getting the rest of the meal (pickles, onions, jalapenos, sauce, bread, cookies) ready to serve.

[John G.]

I got the job of greeting people and trying to get them in the right line to be served quickly.

[John G.]

It was nice because it gave me more contact with the people at the center, most of whom were really nice. A great mix of folks, including multiple families, a few transgender people, many disabled, and people just down on their luck in need of a good meal.

[John G.]

And they were greatly receptive to the food. The line for seconds was long and many just stopped by afterward to thank us.

[John G.]

Afterwards, my friend Gail and I went out to have some barbecue of our own.

[John G.]

We went to a place called the Pigpen, which is more bar than anything, but they get their barbecue from a food truck I've always liked.

[John G.]

The place was having a Bob Dylan tribute in honor of his winning the Nobel Prize.

[John G.]

One of the bands to play featured a priest from Gail's Episcopal church. He stopped by to talk when he saw us wearing T-shirts from the event.

[John G.]

His group was interesting in that it had a fiddle, an upright bass, a banjo and harmonica. They did bluegrass versions of The Might Quinn and Mr. Tambourine Man. Really a lot of fun.

The brisket grilled cheese sandwich was also really good.

[John G.]

And there's nothing like a couple of beers after a long day's work.

[John G.]

It's rainy and drizzling here, making driving fun.

[John G.]

Back to steaks.

[John G.]

I still want one.

[John G.]

Medium rare, just like Vixmom said.

My favorite steaks are when I go to Costco and get a package of rib-eyes and New York strips, smother them in McCormick's Montreal seasoning and then throw them on the grill.

[John G.]

Usually when that happens, 20 or so folks are around, and the meat is sliced up after it rests and everyone digs in. Fun times.

[John G.]

As for the prime steak houses we have in town, a mix of locally owned places and chains, I like a couple of the locally owned best. One is named Myron's and is housed in a renovated movie theater. The meat just melts in your mouth. And each comes with a wedge salad that's smothered in blue cheese, hard-boiled egg and bacon.

My favorite of the chains is Kirby's, which is related to the former Mickey Mantle's steakhouses. They have plenty of beautiful dishes outside of steaks, including this seafood salad.

My only problem is I can't afford to eat steak in restaurants.

[John G.]

Unless somebody else pays.

[John G.]

I did meeting Ruth Fertel a few times. She's the woman who started Ruth's Chris.

[John G.]

She was fun. She also smoked like a chimney.
