Lost a coworker over night to cervical cancer. She had four children and fought hard for the last 18 months.

Not in a happy mood.

John, my condolences to you and to her family.  :(

ASK BK

I may have missed it and was going to ask when you first mentioned Villa-Lobos, but have you heard Magdalena: a Musical Adventure? (Musical adaptation and lyrics by Wright and Forrest)

There was a studio recording with Judy Kaye, George Rose & Jerry Hadley

I listened to it last night  - haven't heard it since it came out - the music is great but it's just too florid and the lyrics... well.  If you read the reviews on Amazon it's amazing how many accuse Villa-Lobos' only attempt at a musical as something he should never have attempted.  What's wrong with this picture?  First correct answer gets a pat on the back.

Villa-Lobos had nothing to do with the musical.  Robert Wright & George Forrest created it from the music of Villa-Lobos, in the same way they created the shows Song of Norway from the themes of Grieg, and Kismet from Borodin.  They can be considered some of the very first "jukebox musicals."

Vibes and xylophones to JohnG (and elmore to get better - one word: Sambucol - the box with thirty little white pills - they are a miracle).

I had never heard of this, but i just bought it from Amazon.  thanks so much for the recommendation!

I wonder if they'll record this:  Jake Gyllenhaal to Sing on Broadway in ‘Sunday in the Park With George’. :)

Quote
Gyllenhaal will re-team with Annaleigh Ashford, with whom he starred in a concert version of the show in October as part of New York City Center's Encores series.

Sarna Lapine will direct the musical, which features a score by Sondheim and a book by James Lapine.

Performances are set to begin February 11, 2017, ahead of an official openinng on February 23. The limited run, which will play through April 23, will mark the reopening of Broadway's historic Hudson Theater on West 44th Street.

Thank you, all. It's been a long day.

Claudia was a very bright and focused woman. I enjoyed working with her because of her quick wit and quiet demeanor. She had four kids, the youngest of which is 18.

If I come to New York for the New Yorkers, maybe I could get to see this, too. I remember seeing the original late in previews and just breaking up at the end. Still one of the most powerful evenings of theater I've ever seen.

I am still having a terrible time after being reminded yesterday at HHW of Jell-O with cottage cheese in it......a gross and abominable "dessert" that I was hoping had been outlawed in this country.

We went for a shorter walk than usual today as it is cold, windy, and beginning to snow.  I bundled up with extra layers to protect my nose, mouth, and chest.  Living in Michigan I learned not to breathe the cold air when I have a cough.

When I left for lunch, it was cool but not uncomfortable.  When I left the restaurant, it was COLD! :-\

It has dropped down to 29 degrees since we returned home. With the chill factor it is closer to 19 degrees.
