I used to have  ear infections far too often.  I think the worst was n a Memorial Day weekend in the late 1980s, and I culd not get to a doctor before Tuesday.  By Sunday, my tight ear was swollen shut and the pain was unbearable.  I was working on some project and I thought the infection and dadline stress would kill me. I was afraid that I was getting an ear infection last night, but everything seems okay this morning.

As a kid, up to I'd guess ten years of age, I had a number of ear infections, then I went years without one.  The next one, which the doctor said was "a good one", developed from a bad cold or flu in 1996.  About two years ago I thought I was getting one, but the doctor said it looked more like drainage (or lack of drainage?) from a recent cold, but he gave me antibiotics to be sure, and it was soon okay.  But ear infections scare me, and since that bad one in '96, I run to the doctor immediately upon feeling any such thing.

Not to mention the pain, which is not unlike a serious toothache.  I can't even imagine what it must have been like getting through that Memorial Day weekend.

Our son Rob had a lot of ear infections until we had him tested for allergies and started shots.  The ear infections subsided and, eventually, he grew out of the need for allergy shots.

There is a case of two little girls age 13 who were both killed in Indiana about 9 days ago.  It is a horrible crime and the local, state, and federal authorities are working on the case.  They are releasing very little information and playing it very close to the vest.

This morning they say that one of the girls turned on the video/audio recorder on her cell phone and they have information from that that will help them in the investigation. They have not released a cause of death or any details about the crime.

So sad.....Libby & Abby went for a hike on a local trail....in daytime....and never came home.  They were found the next day.....

Bruce, I hope the ENT can help you, and I also hope you can fight the feared oncoming cold.  I, too, fear an oncoming cold.  Have had a number of bouts with congestion since my bronchitis episode last October.  Got a major head cold that moved into my chest the week before Christmas, and it has never completely gone away.

I take Mucinex, liquid and tablet, which sets me aright most of the time.

I used to take Nyquil as a sure-fire tonic to make me feel better.  However, it also gave me nightmares.  Rather, its effect on me led to nightmares.   I found them much more disturbing than my symptoms and have abandoned it for other medications.

"Copacetic" -- mean everything is fine, excellent, in good order.

This word became a "catch" word in the 70s among flower children and pot heads.

If someone were to stop and ask a bunch of them how everything was going, they would answer "copacetic".

That and "maintain" were the words I used to hear a lot...in the 70s.

Congrats to George for lack of polyps.

I'm supposed to have that very procedure "again" in November.  Had my first in November 2015.

Sigh.

I won't be here in November, so I guess I'll work something out in South Carolina.

Unpleasant surprise this morning:

I went to dry my hair after my shower; plugged the dryer in and the little doo-hickey plastic box on the cord exploded into flame.  Luckily I was able to pull it out before there was too much damage, but there is now a burn mark under the wall plug in my bathroom.

We took the dryer back to Wal-Mart and they gave us a new one of a different brand.  No charge.

The dryer that "exploded" was a ConAir, so be warned.

DR Druxy I am glad you weren't hurt and your house didn't burn down.

Did you have a receipt to prove you purchased the dryer at Wal-Mart or were they simply nice about it?

Bruce & Jeanne, my walking partner returned from L.A. yesterday and is not up to walking this morning.  I am sure you won't be surprised she is is experiencing the first day of a cold.

No receipt, since we'd bought it several months ago.  They were very nice about it.

I'm up, I'm up - stuffy from the Ny-Quil, so trying to un-stuff.  I'll be on my way to the ENT shortly.

I do not know from hair dryers and hair blowers or any other hair appliance - but I shall remember your admonition DR DRUXY.

Back from the ENT.  Thankfully, nothing serious.  A ball of wax that I could not apparently get to with my usual every two days Q-tip things, had lodged itself on my left eardrum.  So, first he vacuumed both ears, then he had to use another instrument to actually get this glob of wax.  All should be fine now - he said it may take a few hours to be back to completely normal, but it already feels so much better.
