Spending a few hours now with a box set called New York Philharmonic: An American Celebration - all radio broadcast performances, most in archival sound - but if you love American music it's a must-have. Ten CDs (two five-CD boxes) filled to the brim with great or at least interesting music (although I'm not sure how forward I'm looking to volume two's more modern works - we shall see) - lots of Copland, a wonderful performance of Hanson's Symphony 2 with Hanson conducting, Charles Ives, Virgil Thomson, Bernstein, Diamond, Harris, Schuman, and many others. Very enjoyable. I'm on disc three at the moment.
