Having now heard the Cluytens Ravel CDs in their entirety, as well as two Roussel symphonies (I'll have to listen a time or two more - didn't love either), I've now gone to the beginning of the set and am listening to the first four CDs, all transferred from 78s - transfers are mostly fine - they went from the best copies they had. Performances are wonderful. So far the Beethoven Piano Concerto 4, which I actually kind of enjoyed, now a Richard Strauss piano thing which is also nice. I like listening to these as sitting by an old radio seventy years ago and what that must have been like - and you know what - there's something to be said for the simplicity of sound - a certain charm.
