What a day. As you know, I set the alarm for ten - it's been working fine all week. I had a twelve-thirty lunch. The phone rang at what I assumed was a usual nine o'clock robo call so I didn't pick up. But I kept wondering how it could be so hot in the house already - so I opened the iPad to see the time - 12:55. I couldn't believe it. I called the guy and told him I'd be there within thirty minutes - he told me the traffic was terrible but they'd go ahead and order. I was literally out of the house in four minutes. Thankfully I know the city so well I did indeed make it in twenty-three minutes. I began on Laurel Canyon - half of that journey was quick as can be, the other half slightly slower. When I got to Melrose I could see they were doing some kind of work ahead and that the traffic was backed up from Beverly Blvd. so I quickly turned right, took Melrose to San Vicente and turned right, then took my secret street south - signals at every major intersection, and was at Pico in no time flat. Turned right and got to the restaurant quickly and valet parked. While they all signed CDs, I ate. Met Dominique Swain, who's just a lovely person.
