TOD - my favorite class in high school was English, because that's where I really learned to write.  In college, I loved the 2 semesters of US intellectual history, a chronological view through the lens of literature, arts, religion, and philosophy.

TOD:

I didn't care for high school. Time has softened that feeling only a little. I did enjoy learning foreign languages (Latin, Spanish, French and German) and freshman English was great because we read 50 or so novels, nonfiction and plays over the course of the year.

This does not bode well for the rest of the day.

I hope the rest of your day is better.

Super duper Val just showed up with my printer and it's now up and running. He said he was going to bring it up last night but it was too late.

One good thing today 😊

Has Ask BK Day moved?

I say we Ask BK anyway, like obnoxious little schoolchildren, and see what happens.   :D

I'll start: Ask BK: Bruce, how long are you going to milk the 4th of July excuse for not knowing what day it is :-)

TOD:

My favorite classes in high school were Baking and Typing. My favorite classes in college were Criminal Justice and Behavior Disorders.

I chose UC-Irvine because it was the only university with a Dance department that claimed not to emphasize modern dance, and I had never taken a modern dance class. But while there, I completely fell in love with modern dance, over ballet or jazz.

I took a modern dance class in high school and loved it, and the teacher.  Funny though, I preferred dancing it for fun than watching it professionally.

It begins early too, at 9:00.  I usually look for messages before going to bed.

I didn't realize until now that Rhode Island has a senator named Senator Whitehouse.  Sounds like the type of character name you'd find in a Restoration comedy.

Turns out one of Dad's biggest problems was that he was taking one of his meds incorrectly and an apparent side effect (one that's being debated) is spells of dementia.

I spent two hours on the telephone this morning "signing up" for my retirement health care and prescription plans.  Both are through AARP.  Because I am moving out of state, my County health care plan (with Kaiser) is not transferrable.  The retirement association gave me a number to call to sign up with plans that will benefit me in Johnston SC.  They are giving me a generous monthly stipend to cover the costs.  My plans will use less than half of the stipend.  Of course, I'm in the early experimentation stages of the plan and it may be adjusted annually.  Happily, I also have VA, so I'm not too worried about things given the tenuous nature of health coverage issues today.

Re:  Today's subject "The Neglected Colon"

A meme has been going around Facebook.  It's a tad bit yucky, but it's funny inasmuch as it highlights the importance of correct spelling:

That would make it difficult to turn off the phone.  We also don't have a landline in our bedroom anymore.  Keith can still hear it during the night, however, we don't always if the tv is on.

Turns out one of Dad's biggest problems was that he was taking one of his meds incorrectly and an apparent side effect (one that's being debated) is spells of dementia.

I am glad that was figured out.  Too often meds are a major contributor.   I hope this adjustment continues to show improvement.

Has anyone figured out a better system to make sure he takes his meds correctly?

That's great!  Will you have a good VA near you once you move?  A friend in Ashland had to travel to Portland when he had cancer.

Got invited to opening night of Matthew Bourne's The Red Shoes at the Ahmanson - very curious about it - music by Bernard Herrmann.

DR John, I gather pill boxes and/or charts don't work.  I realize the diabetes makes it more complicated.  Is it possible to have a team of people, each with a time & medication assigned, to call with a reminder and stay on the phone until it is taken?
