Guess the daughter's imminent arrival wasn't that imminent, as she's still not here.  

The other thing about the Mac, is that I can get one of those music programs where I can play songs on a keyboard and it creates at least a rough version of the music - that would be most helpful.

BK, you most definitely do NOT need a MAC for notation software.  I have always used a PC for all my charting.  All of the most common programs (Sibelius, Finale, Encore) are made for Windows.

I will say that I have experienced a rather strange latency problem (no jokes, please) with my MIDI setup and notation software since upgrading to Windows XP.  This is especially weird since I'm now using a USB port for my MIDI keyboards, which are supposedly much faster than serial or parallel ports.  Who knew?

However - and this may no longer be true - the MIDI interface is built into Macs - at least the higher end models.  No need to buy a separate piece of hardware.  *Oh, and the cool little router box that comes with ProTools is well... Cool!

I've heard of people having the same problem.  Apparently it has to do with the fact that USB can be used to connect all sorts of peripherals, but MIDI is just for music so there's no "translation" time involved.  Additionally, depending upon how you have your USB connections set up, sometimes it's not a true direct connection from your keyboard to your computer since the USB signal has to be decoded and routed once it reaches your computer.  Yes, we're talking nanoseconds here, but on some sysems the difference is noticable.

And then there are all the issues with Windows XP...

I'm back

Good news from the doctor.  I will have to have some surgery, but it doesn't seem to be anything more than a rather big cyst, so on the 21st of January I'll be going under the knife, and should be back to normal in a week or so.

It is an absolutely beautiful winter day here today. Temperatures in the mid 40s, gorgeous blue cloudless sky. I took my walk mid afternoon today and just breathed in that clean, crisp air and felt alive. The best I've felt in weeks. I happened to pass a condo that had fresh evergreen wreaths on the doors, and when I took a deep breath, I got that fabulous cedar smell that brought back so many holiday memories to me.

Sometimes (most times), it's great to be alive!

All I know about Macs is that when the minister emails me an attachment, I cannot open it -- which makes a problem when he does work on his computer at home and sends me things I need for the newsletter or bulletin.

TOD: I haven't seen a movie this year.

It has turned out to be a very lovely day, weather wise.  They say that we will be back up into the 70s by the end of the week.  Yay!  We have finely seen the sun again after three days of nothing but gray, rain filled, cold, nasty days

If I had known it was going to be this nice, I would have ventured out and went to see POTO.  Oh well.  Next Sunday will have to do.

I've just come back from taking the dogs for a walk.  I think we all enjoyed the exercise.  Someone had one of the truck bed covers on the ground at a house we passed.  It was all shiny and bright.  It scared the heck out of both dogs.  They didn't know what to make of the distorted "dogs" that were looking back at them.  I got quite a laugh out of it.

I'm going to make chicken and yellow rice with black beans for dinner tonight. We haven't had it for a long time and I've been longing for it.

Comething is not a new word at all.  It is a very old word, dating back to the Middle Ages in Jolly Olde Englande.  It looks strange to our eyes now, because we don't divide the word properly.

It's a rather coolish grey day in the City of Studio. I'm sitting in front of the computer quite cold (me, not the computer).  I'm wearing grey (to match the day) sweat pants, a black T-shirt, a dark grey (to match the day) hodded jacket and comfy bright blue (not to match the sky) Curious George slippers. Have I mentioned I'm cold? I've been sipping on COLD Diet Cherry Coke - that might explain it. That and the fact that it's cold.
DD has gone to see SPANGLISH, which I'm not particularly eager to see. Tonight we might see SIDEWAYS.

Daughter has left the home environment.  She and her hubs bought me a faboo gift - a neck massager.  I cannot wait to use it.

We ate at Art's Delicatessan.

It's very chilly and gray here in the City of Studio.  

Can someone answer this question: On a Mac, which I know is just about virus-free, if you install Windows for Mac, does that enable the Mac user to be prone to all those stupid and endless Windows viruses - do you need the same protection?
