Well, you've read the notes, the notes did not go bad, and now it is time for you to post until the bad cows come home.

I had to be up early to be ready for the War Veterans picking up my clothing donation.

This morning I am wiping the hard drive of my old iMac for Val.  The housecleaning will continue until around 4:00PM, then I shall prepare for tonight's birthday bash with Rob and Joshie.

I miss Artie's:  When good delis go dead.  I can't even think of a good Jewish deli at this point.  DR Jane and I were lucky to get to the 2nd Avenue Deli before it closed, the Carnegie Deli has gone the way of all flesh, I believe.

BK,

You're lucky.  At least, you have a real Jewish deli in Los Angeles.

Here in Austin, we have wannabe Jewish delis.

George - so that there can be a copy of the show, maybe the actors would be willing to come in and speak or read the show (carefully synching it to the video while watching, even just for a few key scenes) so that something special could be in the archives for this particularly successful run?

I made a deal yesterday for an actor to do an audio recording of my one-person play, (Errol) FLYNN.

That makes audio versions of five (5) of my one-person plays currently in production. The other four are (Clark) GABLE, (Carole) LOMBARD, (Spencer) TRACY and (Basil) RATHBONE.

It's a bit of a juggling act for me, particularly since two of the actors are in the UK, but (hopefully) all five will be finished and available for holiday giving.

WORD OF THE DAY

The dumb girl who was a goy married a wealthy Jewish man. It was the high holidays and he was so excited because he was going to blow the shofar. The girl divorced him. She misunderstood.

Dead tired today.  Fortunately, there's very little I absolutely have to do prior to heading to the theater this evening.

I do not know from delis.  I did eat at the Carnegie Deli once when I was in NYC back in the 20th century.

And when MR BK & DR CHARLESEPOGUE were in Indianpolis in 2004, we took them to Shapiro's in Indianapolis.  I don't remember that MR BK said anything in particular about the food - he bought everyone's dinner - but he was interested to see some real Indiana Jews - some of whom came in about half way through our meal.....

In all of the excitement over DR ELMORE's natal day, I forgot to mention the 104th birthday of Miss Frances Farmer yesterday.

Wednesday morning greetings!  Richard and I are going tonight to the first in a 3-part seminar in elder law.  I think there will be info I could have used over the last several years in caring for Mom, but it will still be helpful as we approach our own golden years.

DR Elmore, have you been to Fine & Shapiro on West 72nd, between Amsterdam and Columbus?  We stumbled across it after one of the NYC Kritzerland shows as we were walking back to our apartment on 69th St.

The deli situation in NYC is absolutely horrible, with the loss of the Stage (I think that was the first big one to go), Second Avenue Deli, Carnegie Deli, one on 57th and Sixth whose name I never remembered (did it start with "L"? - something like "Lenny's?), the most recent blow of the infuriating overnight loss of Artie's, and I believe even a few others in Manhattan that were INSTITUTIONS for decades.  It's a rotten situation.  I'd say "inexplicable", but mostly it's just rotten as many of these losses are about commercial rents and the abysmal failure to control them to any extent in order to preserve things that were unique about NYC.

Sorry to hear about the Nate 'n Al's visit, but observing from afar, and in my ignorance, I'd attribute that at least partly to the loss of nearly all that was good about the Golden Triangle of Beverly Hills.  One can always hope it was just the luck of the draw, but the waitress's attitude is a bad sign.  Also, and I mean nothing sexist about this, but didn't they used to always employ the more stereotypical male waiters who had been there for a hundred years?

Ask BK:

I think you've said you don't like Art's in Studio City.  Wouldn't it at least provide the vibe and (hopefully) some of the taste of the real thing?  Are the regulars a decent crowd?  I've only been there a few times and have probably just had the pastrami on rye, cole slaw on the side, and coffee or a Coke (my defaults), perhaps a slice of cheesecake, but for me it had the vibe and as far as I know I was happy with the food.
