Today is the birthday of the late Anna Kashfi.

As I related in my 2nd memoir, LIFE, LIBERTY & THE PURSUIT OF HOLLYWOOD:

"One afternoon in the late 1960s, the owner of an upscale coffee shop in Brentwood asked me to come by and talk to him about my possibly publicizing his restaurant.

"When I got there, he was busy with another matter, so he introduced me to one of his favorite customers, and she
invited me to sit with her and her son until he was free.

"The lady was actress Anna Kashfi, who had played prominent roles in films like THE MOUNTAIN with Spencer Tracy and BATTLE HYMN with Rock Hudson, but was certainly best known as being the first wife of Marlon Brando, and the mother of his son, Christian.

"I spent perhaps fifteen or twenty minutes chatting with the pleasant Ms. Kashfi about this and that. My impression of Christian, who appeared to be about eleven at the time, was that he was a quiet, well-mannered young man.

"In 1990, this same quiet, well-mannered young man shot and killed his half-sister’s boy friend in his father’s Los Angeles home. He pled guilty to manslaughter, and served five years in prison.

"One never knows what the future holds."

And the sad coda to the story is that he would die at the age of 49 in 2008 of pneumonia. His sister Cheyenne committed suicide at the age of 25.

Well, I didn't do absolutely nothing for the remainder of the day.  I continue3d to putter around, striving to make the apartment as cat friendly as I could.  If I never do acquire one, I've at least given the place a good cleaning and that's not a bad thing at all.

Today I am going to make a trip down to this cat/kitten adoption and look around.  I may return with an animal or I may not.  Still, it's good to get out of the apartment, travel to a part of Manhattan I do ot know well, and check out the situation.

Jule Styne was a former publicity client.

I did his Oscar campaign for "Best Song" for FUNNY GIRL.

We got the nomination, but not the award.

It was a strong year in 1968 for Academy Award nominated songs. (6 of the eligible songs were "title songs")

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
For Love Of Ivy
Funny Girl
Star!
The Windmills of Your Mind (The Thomas Crown Affair) (Winner)

and the other songs that made final (top ten) list but didn't make the cut

Dakota (The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band)
A Flea In Her Ear
I Love You, Alice B. Toklas
Springtime For Hitler (The Producers)
The Way That I Live (The Bliss of Mrs. Blossom)

Today Wae-Ling and I are going to man a butterfly table at some garden expo. The garden people would be appalled to see my yard. It's a mess.

Once again I have lost track of what days these are.

I don't care what the calendar said, yesterday was a Saturday.  Today is, too, of course, even though it doesn't yet feel convincing.

Are you already ready for that?  Has Josh taken everything he can take?  It looks like I'll be free to do it on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday of next week, if that should happen to be good for you.

Yesterday was NOT a Saturday, it was most definitely a Monday.  Thankfully today is a Saturday and a productive one .  Only 11 and I have been to church to setup the girl the Saturday and Sibday communion services , did the grocery shopping AND put the groceries away   Done a load of laundry , empties restocked and run the   dishwasher, taken out the trash, been to IHOP with Vixdad for breakfast , renewed our EDP dental plan for 2 years and searched the inter web for parking coupons

Saturday morning greetings!  Rebecca and I quite enjoyed our VANITIES encore last night.  We chatted with the cast members afterwards and they got a kick out of the fact that we'd seen the play together 40 years ago.  The girls were very enthusiastic, but their director did them no favors and it was pretty lackluster.
