Well I am back and feeling a lot better.

All this talk about Flower Drum Song wow. I just finished the first draft of my play last night and in the last moments of the play Flower Drum Song is quoted.

There is also news that a "new" Nancy LaMott CD will be released on February 1st. It's one of her last performances. It was recorded at Tavern on the Green in Central Park in NYC. Here is the link to the Playbill On-Line article.

Hmmmmmm.....I love that story DRJOSE. I am trying to imagine what your teachers wrote on your audition sheet! Yes, the FLOWER DRUM SONG looked great - but it wasn't in STEREO! At least it wasn't on my system. My p/s VHS is in stereo, so I am not sure what was going on. And of course some of the sets were re-used by producer Ross Hunter in BACK STREET! I liked the "Love Look Away" number - although like ALL of Hermes Pan's numbers in the movie - it went nowhere!

I'm prone to compulsive behavior, so I most often listen to my cd's in alphabetical order, at least once a year to make sure I listen to all of them because for some reason I have to justify owning the cd. So even though there are some that I struggle to get through again and again, I still do it. Or sometimes when a cd rolls around I don't enjoy, I make sure to play it when I'm in the shower so I don't have to listen to it. I know, it kind of defeats the purpose of why I listen to them, but it justifies it in my head. Sometimes for me, it is best not to question.

Anyway, there are many occassions when I pull out some favorites and they would include:

Good morning. I had a very restless night, DRs, and may sneak back to bed for 15 minutes. But I did have a terribly interesting and VERY sexy dream about little old me and - wait for it - Mr. Gregory Peck. Why Mr. Gregory Peck, I don't know. I haven't watched any of his movies recently, haven't thought about him recently... But there you go - the mind is a mysterious thing. You'd think I would have been dreaming of wooden chickens.

My top ten most listened to CDs change from time to time, but over this last year the ones I have been listening to over and over include:

RAI SUPERSTARS (Rai is a particular type of pop/hip hop music from assorted Arabian/Northern African countries)

LAKEER soundtrack...I never tire of the songs from this movie

GARV soundtrack

Homemade compilation of 50s/60s instrumentals

AMR DIAB...I listen to 3 or 4 of his CDs constantly.

ADAMN SAMNI..Hindu pop singer from India...I listen to his CDs quite regularly

RHODES REASON...B movie actor who sent me a CD of him singing from back in the 60s.

NOW THAT'S ARABIA volume 3

DIANA DARRIN...B-movie actress who sent me a CD of her singing songs from back in the 60s.

If I were Lord Lloyd Webber and Warner Bros. I'd be sweating those grosses. Though the studio is saying that the movie is in limited release, it's not so limited. Charlotte is always one of the last big cities to get true limited release movies. It was January before CHICAGO arrived here. But PHANTOM opened at several theaters here in town the same time it rolled out in other cities across the country. A $4.1 million gross the first weekend did not look that good to me, and last week, with the holidays and other movies doing BIG business, PHANTOM counted $4.8 million, not a big upswing for a musical that would seem made for viewers seeking a lush movie experience during the holidays.

When the movie spreads out to other territories, it's going to to be in smaller cities and towns that I don't think are going to be all that welcoming to a pop opera.

Just my opinion, of course, but I see EVITA-level grosses for this movie ($60-70 million) rather than the $170 million that CHICAGO grossed domestically.

Sad to say, but I've read nothing about any release plans for FLOWER DRUM SONG. I recorded it off AMC years ago on tape (widescreen edition that came on at 2 a.m.), and have been toying with the idea of transferring that over to a DVD.

I'd really love to have a pristine DVD commercial issue of the film.

Not sure what the hold up on FLOWER DRUM SONG is, DVD wise - but at least we did get the soundtrack on CD so that is a start.

I was surprised the TCM showing wasn't in STEREO - or did anyone else get a STEREO broadcast? I remember it wasn't last time either, so I didn't bother to tape even though it IS so much better in letterbox!
