How do I politely tell some people that my surgery is not about them? The stress they're adding is bordering on the ridiculous.

John, send them a link to The Kvetching Order.

;)

Thank you. Except one thing: Sometimes distant relatives are closer than parents or siblings.

I took it to mean whoever is emotionally closest, so distant relatives can be closer and be in smaller circles.

Frances McDormand's speech was edited several times.  It didn't seem like she really said anything other than "shyte," which wasn't bleeped.

John G, I'm sorry you have to go through this. Dealing with medical issues can be difficult enough. I'm sure most people don't realize that they're giving you an additional burden.

Vibes for your surgery to go as smoothly as possible.

Jrand, do you wish to weigh in on the Golden Globes fashions? I don't usually like many of the dresses, but today I saw one i liked. It was the black one.

We are grateful not to have been on the Norwegian cruise ship that decided to sail into the big storm that hit NY, only it was far worse out on the ocean.

I'm glad you weren't on it. But who would name a cruise ship the Breakaway? Isn't that just asking for trouble?

I'm just gonna say it again - the Golden Globes are a joke, completely and utterly a joke.  Not a funny joke, either.

Back from a spectacularly great young people show, which I called A Young Person's Guide to Kritzerland.  Every kid came through beautifully - there wasn't a flub in the entire show and we had a completely full house despite some no-shows due to illness.  The audience was great and very responsive - lots of patter laughs, too, which isn't always the case at the young people shows.

I was on YouTube and saw that Frances McDormand's acceptance speech was posted.  I watched it and it wasn't edited...and nothing was really offensive (except maybe her saying "shyte").  Here's the link, if anyone is interested:

Apparently the Vixter and her fiancée have  decided to get married  in Florida

Perhaps the kids would consider having a second reception, after the fact, on Long Island?  I know several families who have found that a good solution.

My former housemate and his then-wife got married in Vegas (not because they "had" to...they just really wanted to get married there), and they had their reception here in Olympia.  It worked for them.

I happened to have the local news on the TV, and they just had this story:  Lawmaker wants to study Olympia-Seattle ferry option.  That would be cool.

That would be one long ferry ride.
