Indeed it is difficult to go past the beautiful "No-one Is Alone" and the entire Laurie Beechman album. I would add "Bridge Over Troubled Water" with the angelic voice of Art Garfunkel and the Marin Mazzie tracks on BK's Stephen Schwatrz album "With You/Gifts Of Love".

Yesterday Andrea tried to post a pic from GeoCities, which got her red-x'd.

I took the liberty of grabbing same (the pic, not Andrea) and fuss and fiddled and hosted in such a fashion that, hopefully all 3 pics will load rapidly; if not tell me!

For the techo-nerds I right-clicked red x and save the picture to a file (.bmp). I opened the file in Windows Pintbrush and saved as a .jpg. I then opened the .jpg in my Kodak Picture Software which came with my Camera and trimed the main photo and also cropped the head shot. I saved all three pics in a medium grade EMail format. I then transferred the files to my HHW Album in PictureTrail and got Picture to generate URLs which I used to emden the images in this text.

Inspirational songs? Well, I've pretty much decided which CD to play first, as der Brucer and I head eastward: Barbara Cook, singing "It's Not Where You Start, It's Where You Finish," from SeeSaw (music by Cy Coleman, lyrics by one of my favorites, Dorothy Fields). (The CD is Close as Pages In a Book, if anyone is curious. Not a BK production, but that might have been gilding the lily.)

Of course, given the situation, this ends up sending a confused message. Are we finishing our life in California, and beginning same in Delaware, or are we beginning our journey, with the finish to take place in a week's time? Maybe I should be trying a different song:

Don't lose your confidence if you slip.
Be grateful for a pleasant trip,
And pick yourself up, dust yourself off,
Start all over again.

(Fields again, here partnered with Jerome Kern. If anyone accuses me of being a "friend of Dorothy," I'll have to ask "Which one?")

So many inspirational songs in musicals!

BUT if I have to choose just one it would be SOME PEOPLE - it's great to have a dream, lots of people do, but you need the guts to make it come true. It won't come to you.

And Stephen Sondheim and Jule Styne put the thought together perfectly!

The perfect album sung by the late great Laurie Beechman. A beautiful selection of songs produced by Bruce Kimmel. Cannot recommend it enough especially knowing what Ms. Beechman was going through when she recorded the album

Climb Every Moutain is an excellent choice so I am going to chose another Rodgers and Hammerstein song, You'll Never Walk Alone Lanny Myers did a beautiful job of orchestrating and arranging this song and Laurie wa backed by Terri Klausner, Loni Ackerman, Armstead Christian, Linda Beasley and Victor Pond

After listening to album I think I will add No One is Alone to my favorite list

If you can still find a copy please get it. (But not from that other label directly)

I would consider many of Jerry Herman's upbeat songs to be inspirational; among them, "The Best of Times," "Open a New Window," and "Put on Your Sunday Clothes." Another favorite is the stirring "Learn to Be Lonely," from the BK-produced (Bay Cities) A Doll's Life (Comden and Green, Grossman).

And a bit of unrelated trivia for der Burcer, et al.: "The word nerd first appeared in 1950 in Dr. Seuss's If I Ran the Zoo: And then, just to show them, I'll sail to Ka-Troo And Bring Back an It-Kutch a Preep and a Proo A Nerkle a Nerd and a Seersucker, too!"

Miss Ethel came through loud and clear JR. The late and sorely missed Nancy LaMott is a wonderful singer of songs of hope and inspiration, many of them penned by David Friedman. Listen to My Heart, We Can Be Kind and Help is on the Way all come to mind. I have all the LaMott CDs, including the Christmas CD and since the legal folderol seems to have been settled, I look forward to some more gems from the vault of Nancy and David.

Inspirational songs -- Gee, there are so many. One song that gets me choked up every time I hear it is "Home" from The Wiz. Strange as it may seem that song has meant so many things at various stages of my life.

I guess I really don't care for inspirational songs. Those by David Friedman in particular - they all sound the same to me. Within the context of the original shows, if supported by the book, an inspirational song can work (Don't Be Afraid from A Tree Grows In Brooklyn is one I like, father to daughter) but take it out of the show, sing it at a ballgame, I break out in hives.

Did I miss the Ask BK answers? I went through all of yesterday's posts and today's notes.

As I said the last time this was the topic du jour, my favorite song of hope is "Gee I Hope I Get It" from A CHORUS LINE. Another song of Hope I like is "Thanks For the Memory".

Am I missing something or has DR Lulu been E&T for a while? I don't recall seeing posts from her for a while... even before the format change, but I may be wrong.

Inspirational songs:

I love "Not While I'm Around" from "Sweeney Todd." It's very intimate -- a declaration that you are going to be watched over in bad times.

"Make Our Garden Grow" from "Candide" is also inspiring -- it is a declaration of survival by one who has endured unimaginable defeats.

"I'm On My Way" from "Porgy and Bess." A statement of hope and determination.

I have to agree with someone's earlier choice of You'll Never Walk Alone. Those final moments in CAROUSEL, where Billy tries to convince his daughter to believe, never fail to move me. Another song would have to be I'm Way Ahead from SEESAW. (I often use that song as a personal affirmation song for my life.) Third choice would probably be Make Someone Happy from DO RE MI.

My favorite inspirational song of all time: "Move On" from SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE. Brings me to tears every time.

Other Sondheim favorites in this vein" "No One Is Alone," "Being Alive," "Our Time."

I was part of an awards show once and the ensemble of singers performed a choral arrangement of "You'll Never Walk Alone" which also choked me up during rehearsals because it was so beautiful.
