Austin police seem to have found a bombing suspect, who blew himself up rather than be apprehended.

I hope the bomb didn't take anyone else with him.

I sent an email to my goddaughter Emily asking her to read it to Pam if there was the possibility that we would not get a chance to speak on the phone. Emily wrote me this morning.
I was able to read your email to my mom and she reminisced and smiled.  Hospice stepped in to help on Monday and she is sleeping peacefully for the most part.  She is ready.

DR Elmore, this is very sweet and my heart goes out to Emily and all who love Pam.  Hugs to you...

A couple of years ago when our friend was not able to speak with us we also sent a letter, along with a photo of our friend's artwork on the wall of my new office.

I wish I had thought to mention this sooner knowing what a comfort it was to us when we couldn't speak to our friend.

Wishing peace to Pam and all who love her.

I think I lost two or three IQ points yesterday. I don't really have many to spare.

DR Ginny, did Rob and Mary Linda get to Cincinnati?

Nope, they're still in Philadelphia.  We're standing by in case they get flown into a different airport, like Dayton.

DR Jeanne:  Where to begin?  There is a lot of adjusting to NOT living alone.  I am sharing space and TV programming and alternating preparing meals.  My mom wants vegetables, vegetables, vegetables.  That's difficult eating out because all you find is limas, corn and stewed tomatoes.  Of course, there is the ubiquitous mac and cheese, which ain't vegetables, and also slaw.  Collards are always good, but I am on "blood thinner" and must not overdo it.  My mom, too.  That goes for cabbage, as well, which is usually available.

My mom doesn't eat much meat and says she wouldn't care if she didn't have any.  I find meat indispensable and love variety in meat preparation.  She doesn't want spices, salt, pepper, etc.  On the other hand, I love fried chicken and it's served EVERYwhere.  On Fridays, either baked or fried catfish (and grits) is available at one eatery, and shrimp 'n grits is at another (and at that one, they have caramel cake)!

It's a conundrum.

She has two soaps she MUST watch...."The Young and the Restless" and "The Bold and the Beautiful."  I check in on them with her about once a week.  That's how often something develops that's different from the week before.

Her evening viewing is exclusively CBS programming. Oh, well.

My aunt lives across the street and often pops in to play SkipBo.

In addition to that, my mom and aunt have lots of doctors' appointments and I usually go along for the ride to see where everything is and to help carry bags after the shopping that gets done on appointment days.

I have yet to begin an independent life (of sorts) of my own.  I feel like I'm waiting on something.  Perhaps the Summer will help me sort things out.

Otherwise, however, the days move swiftly by.  Am sleeping well, am doing what I want to do (mostly) which is next to nothing of any effort.

That's all I can offer up right now.

For the record:  Have been happily enjoying the ongoing saga of Elmo's "Annabelle and Thatch" on Facebook.

DR Jane--to answer your question from yesterday, no, I'm not going home yet.   Thanks for your concern!   I'm at the airport now waiting for my flight to San Francisco.  Lots of rain awaits me, apparently.

I remember seeing Disney's animated THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME years ago and not being too impressed with it.

I did not know they had turned it into a stage musical.  However, if they can make money with it "out-of-town," why not?

Years ago, I recall my clients, lyricist Paul Francis Webster and composer Sammy Fain, did something similar with a stage version of CALAMITY JANE, which had won them a "Best Song" Oscar for "Secret Love".  When the show was adapted to the stage, they made a decision NOT to take the play to Broadway.  They were doing great with it in regional and summer stock theaters and, according to Webster, if it had played New York and received bad reviews, that would have killed it.

Later, I believe, it was done as a television special with Carol Burnett.

The Calamity Jane with Carol Burnett is a real joy, obviously very different from Doris Day. I prefer it.

If I had been home today, I would have had the day off since the government is closed due to the snow.  Since I'm in "leave status" I will still be charged for "annual leave."

Sigh, you could be right :(

The stories I’m reading now are saying more bombs could be out there.

The first musical I was ever involved in was Li’l Abner.  The second was Calamity Jane.  It’s horrifying to admit this, for any number of reasons, but I was (whether I was called it or not, don’t remember), ahem, music director.  I remember very little of the piece — or even the experience, which is probably a blessing.
