Or Dame Edna as Madame Arcati.

Yesterday I picked out a few CDs to listen to over the weekend. Among them: "Noel Coward and Gertrude Lawrence," now playing. At the moment, Gertrude Lawrence is singing "Mad About The Boy." And the next selection?

Yesterday DR Charles Pogue was talking about American Idol.  Frankly I've started fast forwarding thru the awful singers.  I think I must be alone, since they had their highest rating with 33M on Tues (and 26 on wed).  But I prefer watching the good ones.

One thing that surprised me was that they passed over a bunch of good ones.  To me if you're good, you should at least make it to Hollywood.

Jane, thanks for the recipe!  I have a question:  "1 1/4 cup or more sugar?"  I can understand the "or more" butter for the crust, but is the sugar to taste, for future reference?  And then, just to be sure, are the large cartons of sour cream 16-ounce cartons?

Yes, 16oz is the large carton.

The “or more” sugar is to taste, depending how sweet you like it.

I actually I read something yesterday that said the AI ratings were down from last year...even though they won their time slot the other night.

Im not surprised the ratings are lower, I'm not surprised it's still on, I'm not surprised people watch to see others fail and be humiliated (which is the object of this slice-of-life exercise), I'm not surprised it's great to think that anyone could sing better than some of these, and that you (or I, in this case) can sing better than most of them.

What surprises me and fills me with rage is that these %$##$^^&* PARENTS have encouraged the kids far past their capacity to perform-that they did not have the human decency to get them teachers and adequate feed-back before they pushed them onstage on a pink cloud of delusion to Fail Miserably, to Humiliate Themselves  Utterly on f***ing national t.v. What on earth possesses these folk who haven't the guts to do the hard stuff of parenting a child with aspirations in the arts? And if they think their child is talented, let's see the names on the CDs they buy. Is it Dame Edna? Tiny Tim? That guy from first season who writhed to the latin beat of "She Bangs"?

EEEE, I am vexed.

But otherwise, it's just a dandy little day.

Fish to all. LJF

Continuing with today's "love" topic of the day, WMKV is now playing "I Can't Give You Anything But Love, Baby".  don't know who the artist is.  Sounds a little like Johnny "Scat" Davis.  Maybe Tony Pastor.

What is more shocking?

That TV shows like American Idol (Star Académie here!) do exist OR
that people keep watching them?

Boycott or girlcott, I say!

I just tried a new Lean Cuisine entree for lunch, and it was filled with seeping funny and was so awful it made me want to vomit on the ground.   This  entree gave a whole new meaning to seeping funny.
I feel like Lucy Ricardo:   "...And so tasty too!."

YOu know, Dame Edna could pull off playing Mme. Arcati.  Big enough name to also draw an audience.  Hmmmmm......

By the way, Matt, nice pics from the show.  You never told us what great legs you've got.

Dan:  You, Matt and I will have to work on this.

Hmmm, I know they said that the 33M on Tues was the highest rated show of the year (or something like that).  I could swear they said that it was their best debut.

Anybody know for sure?  33 million sounds like a lot of viewers.

Hi folks,

It's only a little after five but it's been a long, long day!

Allow me to introduce you to Bonnie--Bonnie Blue.  My new 04 Ford Explorer!  I am beside myself with excitement!

MAKE:   FORD
MODEL:   EXPLORER XLS
YEAR:   2004
MILES:   7,964
ENGINE:   6 CYL
EQUIPMENT:   AUTOMATIC, TILT, CRUISE CONTROL, A/C, POWER STEERING, POWER WINDOWS, POWER LOCKS, POWER MIRRORS, AM/FM/CD, DUAL AIRBAGS, RUNNING BOARDS, ABS, ANTI THEFT SYSTEM, LUGGAGE RACK.

I have always drove junkers/clunkers.  This is the first vehicle that I have EVER owned that was less then a year old.  I had the guy from the Credit Union come with me to help pick something out that I could afford.  He crawled all over that SUV before giving it the ok.

I got a good as new for the price of a used.  He knew all of the tricks of the trade and got me a GREAT price and low payments!

Your not going to believe it but it turns out that even there, on the other side of town, where I bought Bonnie, they knew about the A-Team van.  One lady lives out my way and she recognized it when I pulled in.  She couldn’t believe it was short old me that hopped out of it.  LOL!  After the sale they even offered to take Bonnie back and have her repainted with the stripe down her.

I’m sorry to hear that DR Ann is ill from the meds.  I’m sending her get better vibes!

Same to DR Elmore and DR OzDerek!  Be well sooner then soon!

Panni, I like DD’s hair.  I wish I could find someone who would cut mine and make it look that good.  Every time I find someone I really like, they leave and I have to start my search all over again.

I meant to tell DR Jane and DR Dan-in-Toronto thank you for the help with the eggs the other night.  They turned out perfect.  I’ve made them many times but for some reason, I burned them the last couple of times and thought I forgot how to make them.

Fish song from my childhood:

One, Two, Three, Four, Five!
I caught a fish alive.
Six, Seven, Eight, Nine, Ten.
I let him go again.
Why did I let him go?
‘Cause he bit my finger so!
Which finger did he bite?
The little one on the right!

Happy, Happy, Happy Birthday DR Elan!

TCB, if you lived next to someone who had ten thousand cats.
Well, it sure seemed like—at least it SMELLED like it.  I’m sure you would not care for cats as much.

It used to be I couldn’t stand out in my yard with the wind blowing from the East without gagging.  Now that she has gone and they tore the house down, life is good.

I’m sure your baby is nothing like the poor things she kept.

DR Hiska, you sure do have some lovely roses.  I know I still owe you a picture of my Michael Crawford.  When I touch down after being so excited about the SUV, I will hunt for a picture.

I have always found it easier to control the smell of two, rather than ten thousand............. cats, I mean.  Although the same is probably true of boyfriends, but it has been years since I have had one, let alone two.

Cole Porter not only wrote my favourite song with love in the title, I AM IN LOVE, but he also wrote my least favourite song with love in the title, the dreary TRUE LOVE.

Lovely new car, Danise!

TOD: A few years ago we did a Vacation Bible School with a "Fishing With Jesus" or some such theme. The best song was "Fish, Fish, I Love Fish" and went something like this:

Fish, fish, I love fish!
Every shape and size.
Big ones, small ones,
Short ones, tall ones,
Fish with sparkly eyes.....

As you can tell, that stupid song got stuck in my brain and still remains.

DR Kerry: See you in a few hours!

DR Danise - When I read in last night's posts that you had a "long exciting day ahead," I had a feeling we'd be hearing some big news from you.  Congratulations on the new wheels!  See you (but not your SUV) in NYC!

Thank you, DR Ginny.  I look forward to seeing you as well( but NOT in my SUV).   I think I shall be right across the street from you after all.

I’ve been thinking about getting a different vehicle for some time now but I guess you could say I’m afraid of commitment.   I think I am going to be happy with what I picked.  At least I sure hope so!

Oh, I see.... cats smell but not dogs?

Well, those who've been to Paris, France might have seen what DOGS -- and I mean dogs, not CATS --  do to the streets here, not to mention the taxpayers' money that is wasted (got it right this time SWW; WASTED) to keep them clean!

Oh, those darn cats! -- Oh, a Disney reference!

TCB, Don't feel rained on. Boyfriend?  What is a boyfriend?   ;)

The Boy Friend- Sandy Wilson

Any girl who's reached the age
Of seventeen or thereabouts
Has but one desire in view
She knows she has reached the stage
Of needing one to care about
Nothing else will really do

Childhood games are left behind
And her heart takes wing
Hoping that it soon will find
Just one thing

We've got to have,
We plot to have,
For it's a dreary not to have
That certain thing called "The Boy Friend"
We scheme about
And dream about
And we've been known to scream about
That certain thing called "The Boy Friend"

He is really a necessity
If you want to get on
And we might as well confess it
He is a sine qua non

We sigh for him
And cry for him,
And we would gladly die for him
That certain thing called "The Boy Friend"

We plead to have,
We need to have,
In fact our poor hearts bleed to have
That certain thing called "The Boy Friend"
We'd save for him
And slave for him
We'd even misbehave for him
That certain thing called "The Boy Friend"

Life without us is impossible
And devoid of all charms
No amount of idle gossip'll
Keep them out of our arms

We're blue without
Can't do without
Our dreams just won't come true without
That certain thing called "The Boy Friend"

We're blue without
Can't do without
Our dreams just won't come true without
That certain thing called "The Boy Friend"

Good Afternoon!

Back from the matinee... And the evening show was cancelled!  :)  -Apparently, they had a lot of people calling in to cancel their tickets.  Additionally, the Metro system and busses started having delays, so...

Of course, the snow stopped sometime during the matinee, but there's supposed to be another small wave of flurries coming through.  However, the big problems tonight - at least in this area - will be the cold and high winds.

Thanks for all the Safe Travel Vibes.  I took my time driving in and out of DC.  Of course, there were a bunch of idiots who were trying their best to drive up to speed, including one cretin who was following about two feet behind me for a few miles on 66 without his lights on.  And he was in a smaller car than mine!  "Idgit!"

Oh, but I did get some satisfaction - I guess, schaudenfreude - whenever I would see some big pick-up truck or SUV who had spun off to the side of the road.  -Thankfully, I did not see any major accidents, and from the traffic reports on the radio it appears that most people did behave on and off the roads today.

Now, what to do on a Saturday night?

;)
