I've given up on AOL for the evening.

I'll be picking up Ridicule this week, along with Leconte's The Widow of St. Pierre - those are the only other two US dvds of his films that are available.

I have to get used to Safari - things are in slightly different places on the screen.  But, boy, is it fast.

I have caught up, and therefore, Ann has caught up, as she's been lying in bed asking me "What's going on at HHW?"

There is a grand version of Frenesi sung by Mel Torme being played right now on the Standards Music Cable Channel (stealing a bit of Artie Shaw's orchestration).  Mel can sometimes can get a bit too Vegasy or Jazzy for me, but when he sings 'em straight and simple, he's smooth.

BK, did we tell you that we were in the elegant Du-Par's ce soir? Swelligant food, remarkable milieu, unbelievably astute, lucid, hilarious conversation.  Our waitress gave us free refills on the joe! Guess they'll never forget our swell time...la, how we laughed! Split our proverbial guts, then brought it down a bit to reflect upon the economics of war and the meaning of life.  We were as one. Then we smoked a cigarette and parted, never again to know such a magic moment, no doubt.

God, I love my life!

Now on the iPod - Elmer Bernstein's gloriously glorious Far From Heaven.

I must eat something wildly interesting this Sunday.  Not sure what that will be, but I'm bored of eating silly food.  I shall ponder this question whilst laying in bed, hugging my pillow.

Whew!

New car for DR DANISE....Chooster in a Swedish Chef's Hat!  Love songs, Harryhausen, French films AND "A Letter to Three Wives" (there were four in the original story and one was dropped)!  Ann Southern and Thelma Ritter - you are always in good hands with these actresses.

DR CP - next time you see Mr Harlan Ellison - please ask him his opinion of BRACKEN'S WORLD - in the collections of his column he keeps writing that he will let this series "fester" for awhile before going after it, and I can't find a specific column where he gives us his views.  As a "fan" of the show, sort of - or maybe just the "idea" of the show rather than its "execution" - I am still after more than 35 years awaiting his words on the matter.

LOL Danny Thomas Spit Take!!  "Are you out of your Mesopotamian minds?"  I love the MAKE ROOM FOR DADDY dvd set, even though they episodes are the syndicated ones with truncated credits (shown only once on each DVD - and the credits are the Syndicated Titles as well)!

Speaking of which.  I hate the A Story and B Story sitcom writing that goes on today.  About a week ago I watched The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour that featured a cross over with the Williams family from Make Room for Daddy.  And there was ONE storyline for the entire hour.  The Williams family rents the Ricardo's house - the Ricardo's trip to California is cancelled - so they move into the little house with the Mertzes - chaos ensues and ends up in a snowball fight and a lovely courtroom scene with Gale Gordon as the judge - a Lucy with "yaringitis" giving her testi-munney in charades!  Doesn't reach the delirous heights of the Tallulah Bankhead episode, but it has a better ending!

Can anyone else remember who played Marjorie Lord's father in the series?

DRPANNI congratulations on 6000 posts!

Topics....glad I was born in Indiana...but mostly glad I guess I was Born in the USA!  'Cos I can't speak French!

TOD - well sequels are on the rage so is there any classic movie that you wish there had been a sequel to, with the original cast and done as well as the original (this is a fantasy topic, so might as well go all the way).

Of course in most classic movies "the story is told" and the plot is "finished" - but in our imaginary world.....

I would like to have seen another "Valley of the Dolls" with the same cast, continuing the story - or at least incorporating parts of the book that were left out the first time around.

And, I would like to have seen "Auntie Mame" as a grandmother taking her grandson for a camel ride and returning on Labor Day...."that's sometime in November, isn't it?"

DR JMK that is one of my favorities episodes of TNG.  I didn't guess the ending, but it was wonderful as were both Patty (Tell 'Em Groucho Sent You) Duke and Miss Virginia Mayo!

Harlan spares no one.  In our wide-ranging conversation tonight, the original Twilight Zone came up and Harlan said all the great episodes were written by guys like Mathieson and Charlie Beaumont and some others, "Rod's were the worst scripts in the bunch and then he said a phrase that, God forgive me, I can't remember; but it summed up that Serling serious intensity and while he said it, he assumed this posture of false profoundity that had us all on the floor.

It was a great night and everyone had their moments and  got in their shots.  Both critics were escaping a Warners Brothers do tonight and they told some great stories about stars and executives.

And what were the stories from the critics?

dr Pogue

I enjoy Mr. Ellison's work and his out spokeness (Is there such a word?)

I always wonder what a conceptual consultant is. It was a position (credited) Mr. Ellison held on the Babylon 5 series

DR GINNY: Didn’t know your cousin is in Mie. I’ve never been there before but it’s nice place and has usually a mild climate. There is a beautiful National Park and Mikimoto (pearl maker) has a big nursery in the waters around as well. I like pearls.

I see that BUNNY LAKE IS MISSING is being released on DVD on Tuesday. I was wondering if anyone who has seen this movie can compare it to The Forgotten which is also out on DVD. Both films deal with missing children that are said to never have existed. I saw Bunny Lake years ago, but have to recollection of it at all.
