Yesterday, my friend Eric Johnson sent me back a magazine that had a picture of him from my Sherlock Holmes play, THE EBONY APE, that was in Scarlet Street.  Silly boy. It was his to keep and I must now send it back to him.  But what was interesting was that the magazine (from 2003, #49) was a vertiable HainesHisWay issue...there's an article on me, there's an article on BK and Jeepers Creepers, there are articles by MBarnum on muscleman actors, Mark Forest and Reg Lewis, and a full-page ad for Jeepers Creepers.

What is the name of this magazine? (Enquiring minds want to know!)

BTW how goes your new car search?

Ohhh, pretty FALAFEL!

MBarnum, is Scott Miller (alias Denny Miller...sometimes billed as Denny Scott Miller, I believe) in any of your Wagon Train Episodes?

I don't know yet, but I am hoping so...I like him. All I know is that one episode guest stars the cute and lovely Ms. Joan Freeman, which is why I picked up the DVD.

Scarlet Street. It is available at your local Borders and some Barnes and Nobles.

DVD reviews by our own TD and JRand54 are included in that same issue, as well, as I recall.

Did anyone else find Jerry Mahoney creepy and scary?

So of course I had to go to www.paulwinchell.com to find a picture for those unenlightened souls who have not been exposed to Winchell and his friends.  Here are, left to right, Jerry Mahoney, Paul Winchell, and Knucklehead Smiff.  I haven't found a picture of Farfel yet.

Ain't the internet great?  Did y'all know that Paul Winchell was the voice of Tigger for Disney?  That he inserted the phrase "Ta Ta for now!" into the script against Disney's express orders?

Did you know that he invented the original patented version of the artificial heart?  And the disposable razor?  That he has written a book on Christian theology from a Deist perspective?  It is available on the internet in pdf format, for those of you interested in Christian theology from a Deist perspective.

The things you learn!

I am bored and simply cannot wait to get off of work at noon!

I will luncheon with my buddy Mark and then maybe check out an estate sale in West Salem.

Tonight I am going to see RAY with my sister and brother-in-law this evening.

Yep, it's Dan Alvino.  Last I heard he was working at some book outlet in Burbank.  I'd love to see him - maybe I'll drive out there and see if I can find him.

Good morning all

Vibes to DR's Jane and Jay and continuting vibes to td.  Hope you are all doing better today.

Congrats to Jose for joining the ranks of us wise Mac people.  And btw, wonderful wonderful job on What If.  DR Jed and I watched it the other night and agreed that you are simply marvelous.

I will soon be leaving my little apartment for the first time (except for taking out the trash) in a week, to get the staples removed from my incision.  They really do look like staples, and it's quite a sight to see.  I took a picture of them last night with my cell camera.  I would post it here, but I have no wish to offend or upset any of our DR's.

Off I go...

Wait till you see her,
See how she looks.
Wiat till you hear her laugh.
Painters of paintings, writers of books,
They couldn't tell the half.

Wait till you feel the warmth of her glance,
Simple and sweet and wise.
All of it lovely, all of it thrilling.
I'll never be willing to free her.
When you see her,
You won't believe your eyes.

Very simple and poignant for Hart, with a nice rhythmic twist at the end.  This is quoted from memory, and the only word I'm not sure of is "lovely".   "Loving"?   I know it from Liza Minelli's version with the pronouns changed.

vixmom, the car search goes on.

BK, I think I was the one who told you Dan was running an A &S book outlet in Burbank in what used to be the Golden Mall.  It's in that cluster of shops that runs along San Fernando Road right before it dead ends into the new shopping mall, between Olive and Magnolia.  The last time I saw him there was about year and half ago.  I'm not even sure the book shop is still there.  Those outlet/remainder shops come and go pretty fast.

Ohhh, pretty FALAFEL!

elmore, George Davis married Lotte Lenya, then assorted sailors from the Brooklyn Navy Yard???  Well, I guess being married to Lotte Lenya could send one to the Brooklyn Navy Yard... Oh...oh...wait, I didn't see that comma...Never mind!

DRPogue,  Lenya married George Davis sometime after Weill's death in 1950.  They were married until his death, and Davis encouraged her to get back to performing and to promote the music of Kurt Weill.  He was also very gay, and I gather the sailors on Middaugh Street were primarily his pickups.  According to Donald Spoto's Lenya bio, she was bisexual, although the only lesbian affair I remember in the book was with dancer Tilly Losch who played Anna 2 to her Anna 1 in the Brecht-Weill SEVEN DEADLY SINS.

DR td:  Condolences on the passing of Minx.  All dogs, you know, go to heaven.  It wouldn't be heaven without dogs.

DR Ann:  Health vibes.  As for posting the picture, I recall my college friends always delighted in pictures of women with staples in their abdomens.

Well, it's my lunch break!  The last hour I worked on the balcony, which contains the performing arts books, art and architecture.  It's never busy there so I looked at a new paperback on the worst movies; it looked like a Michael Barnum Festival!

William F. Orr,  it is "all of it lovely".  I check my Complete Lyrics of Lorenz Hart.  I know it from a lovely version of it by Bobby Short.  It's from a show BY JUPITER which has several Rogers/Hart songs Mr. Haines might wish to take a look at:

Nobody's Heart Belongs To Me (Heigh Ho, who cares?)

Everything I've Got Belongs To You -- This is a great duet song, which Guy is looking for, originally done by Ray Bolger and Benay Venuta with lyrics like:  "I've a powerful anesthesia in my fist/And the perfect wrist to give your neck a twist/ There are hammerlock holds/I've master a few/And everything I've got belongs to you

The other song from this show that I think would be good for Guy is one I mentioned yesterday, NOTHING TO DO BUT RELAX:

Nothing to do but relax
'Neath the eucalyptus trees
flat on our beautiful backs
Healthy and dumb.
Warm days are nice enough
Summer has come.
And we'll bring ice enough
For our rum.

Nothing to do but make love,
Two demented butterflies,
Time with a flutter flies
While the bees make wax
And we have nothing to do but relax.
