Well, you've read the notes, the notes were Shakespearean lite, and now it is time for you to post until the Shakespearean cows come home.

Hello HHWers.  Stayed up to read BK's take on "Romeo & Juliet", since my daughter and I also saw the same performance this evening.

I didn't care for this particular production, but cheers to the actors who took this on, as doing any Shakespeare is challenging and especially considering the many great actors who have performed the most famous roles.

I do like many Shakespearean plays, including West Side Story :)
My first encounter with Shakespeare was the Franco Zefferelli  Romeo & Juliet, and I loved that film.  As a result sister and I learned the entire play and would do the balcony scene over and over, arguing who had to be Romeo.  Hated the Baz Luhrmann version.

As to other favorites, Lawrence Olivier as Hamlet. Peter O'Toole as Macbeth.  I saw James Earl Jones do Othello (at the Mark Taper, I believe) which was amazing.  And I did love Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor together in "Taming of the Shrew".

This is going to be a fairly quiet weekend for me.  Today, I'll go to my sister's for our family's weekly family dinner.  I've been asked to bring some sodas.  That's all I have planned for today.  Tomorrow, I have a union meeting.  That's my scheduled weekend.  Otherwise, I have some TV watching and laundry to do. :)

To be clear - I didn't think the "concept" worked at ALL and it actually got in the way repeatedly, plus all the projected history and images along with the songs and a swing dance, added at least twenty minutes to the running time.  It also didn't help that the actors were directed to play everything over the top.

I've seen some "concept" Shakespeares that worked, and some that didn't.

It's late and I can't really think of any, so I'm going to bed.

Have a good day, all!

So, get this:

We had all these plans to watch Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. Right?

And what did we watch? The Cardinal.

Well, these things happen.

An IMAX theater is showing 2001: A Space Odyssey. The last time I saw it on a big screen was 50 years ago. I'm going to go.

Know what I feel like this morning? No, of course you don’t. So here’s what I feel like. I feel like having an IHOP or a Denny’s or a diner breakfast to get me going. Haven’t had any of that in a while. We don’t even have an IHOP, unfortunately, and that’s what most appeals. But I can accept either of those substitutes.

Question for ELMOORE

I came across some sheet music: A Salute To Marvin Hamlisch that you arranged online.
What did you do this for?

I fed the cats and went back to bed for another 90 minutes.  I needed it; Thatch was unhappy and wanted me to get up.  I dreamed a very good friend was a serial killer.

I didn't write it.

Sadly, no.  it is not mine: there are two Larry Moore and I am not this one.

Since I am nearly 72, I believe I've been working longer in the business, but the other Larry Moore is located in the midwest and works for the Hal Leonard Publishing Company in Milwaukee as an arranger for educational music.  I get many compliments for his work and I hope that he gets many for mine as well. I'm also pretty certain that we each wish the other Larry Moore would drop dead.

So, a beautiful, intelligent high school girl wanted our DR TCB to take her to prom?  Why not?  Wouldn't it be more pleasant to spend a night out with a charming, funny, sharp-witted, talented, and kind gentleman than a neanderthal jock?

DR TCB, don't you ever doubt it.

I'm puttering about home today. I have dusting, books to pull, and a second act to work on.

Does anyone know anyone that can arrange an "accident" for the other Larry Moore? :-)

TOD:

From the seventh grade on, Shakespeare in the Park was the thug for me. Three plays every summer for five or six years. The first was As You Like It, Macbeth and The Winter’s Tale. Other standouts: The Merry Wives of Windsor, The Tempest, Richard II during Watergate, Cymbeline, Hamlet.

They were never staged out of some distant period. Twelfth Night or Love’s Labor’s Lost was never modern day. Probably so they could reuse costumes.
