I've actually been reading a bit slower because I want to extend my time in that world!

Finished watching SKI TROOP ATTACK (1960), a nifty little war film from Roger Corman...he isn't really known for his war films...oddly enough it has much of the music from his film THE WASP WOMAN! Hmmm.

Anyway, it wasn't too bad.

Three OKLAHOMA! songs didn't make the original 78 package: "It's a Scandal, It's a Outrage," "The Farmer and the Cowman," and "Lonely Room." I'm not sure they were even recorded at the original session.

After the OKLAHOMA set was released and proved to be a huge smash, Decca released a second OKLAHOMA set with those other three songs on it. I suspect they wanted Alfred Drake to record it so they could advertise him as the star on the second set.

We have to recall that early cast recordings often just used stars but not the chorus or ensembles of the shows. FINIAN'S RAINBOW used a studio chorus and just the stars singing the other numbers.

Good Evening!

Well, I popped back into the computer store before heading into the show...  I tried out the other camera I was looking at the other day - the one that was "mis-priced".  Well, it certainly is feature-packed, but the zoom-mechanism/button felt kind of flimsy to me, very easy to nudge accidentally.  So... That solved that problem, so to speak.

Then I moved onto the Canon model I was leaning towards.  Alas, they didn't have any in stock...

I guess someone is trying to tell me something.  Ah, well...

But I did finally buy a "pocket drive" to help me transfer files over from my old laptop, and a set of rechargeable batteries for my present digital camera.  -It actually works fine, but only for long distance shots right now - anything further than 20 feet.  But, over the past few months, it just won't focus properly, if at all, for anything close up - and it used to take wonderful close up shots.  So that's why I've been looking for a new one.

Exciting, huh?

;)

DR Ben - Thanks for the clarification of the distance from The Muse to the DBS.  I had a feeling it was a little further than two or three blocks, but...

I do so much walking when I'm in the city, I don't feel like I'm walking "far" until it's something like 15 blocks.  I think I've mentioned before, that I usually walk from the Village up to Times Square - sometimes even further.  A few years ago when I was staying with a friend at 103rd and West End, I would walk down to Times Square from there if I had the time to do so - and enjoy it.

Oh, of course, it's amazing how walking across the island from Avenue to Avenue can seem really long.  Especially if one is running late to play some auditions.

So, has anybody (other than myself) seen the 1976 flick, TINTORERA:  KILLER SHARK?  I just watched this courtesy of Netflix, and I was bored out of my gourd. . . two hours and SIX MINUTES! ! ??? Why?  Quite a silly picture trying to combine the swingin' seventies with gorgeous Mexican locations, lots of male and female nakedness and sharks. . .The one thing that kept me watching was male lead Andrew Garcia. . .yum.  Oh, and Basil Pouledoris (sp?) contributed the score, John Williams had nothing to be afraid for. . .

Matth, what was your letter to Entertainment Weekly about?  I just threw their "professional discount" offer of $19 for a year into the trash.  All I need.  Another magazine cluttering up my house I won't read.

Charles Pogue, I wanted to tell you that I have a Larry Clinton LP broadcast trancription wherein Bea Wain sings "I Dreamt That I Dwelt In Marble Halls" and her vocal is positively transcendant. I found that LP in Ohio and I think I bought it just because of that song title.

Now for my media update:
LP: Soundtrack from forgotten industrial film "Essential Oils of the Far East"
CD: Bobby Goldsboro: Honey
DVD: The Last Unicorn
VHS: Terrorvision, starring the great Gerritt Graham and Mary Woronov

Rodzinski, I've got a Clinton LP featuring Bea Wain by Broadcast Records which also has I Dreamt That I Dwelt InMarble Halls, along with the wonderful Shadrach, and the Lovely Wife's and my song, My Reverie..as well as such spiffy numbers as To Devil With The Devil, Night Shades, Foo To You, Please Come Out Of Your Dream...I must play this again and see if all are as spiffy as I remember them.

I think I've always been behind my own times.

Just dug out the actual LP called "One Night Stand With Larry Clinton", part of a series on Joyce Records probably released in the 70s at some point. This was recorded at "The Streets of Paris Room, International Casino, New York. October, 10, and November 15,  1938" as well as at "Meadowbrook, February 10, 1939".

According to the sleeve, Joyce Records also released One Night Stand LPs with Charlie Barnet, Jan Savitt, Artie Shaw and Elliot Lawrence. "See Your Local Jazz Record Dealer"

I like to save the movie comments for the notes, but I will say in advance that this film features one of the greatest moments of screen acting I've ever seen.

Say, BK, I talked the little lady into coming to the reading as well, should it exist. She works a mere half block from the drama bookstore. So you can count her as another body if that helps. (She is excited to meet John the Trainee).

The Beverly Garland Hotel.  Such greats as Sybil Danning, Lee Benton, Michael Cole, Rose Marie, Shirley Jones, Stanley Livingston, the ubiquitous June Lockhart, Lee Meriwether, Terry Moore and "nearly 100 more celebrities to be announced soon!

All that talk about the New York reading is pretty darned exciting.  I wish I could go! :-\ Maybe someday.

Tonight, I had the final rehearsal for a local annual show for the Sweet Adelines Women's/Puget Sounders Men's Barbershop Choruses (Chori?).  I have four lines and I didn't quite get them out quickly enough.  I remembered them, but the timing was off.  They'll be perfect tomorrow (they have to be).  We have two performances, so I'll be gone all day.

I forgot (AGAIN...dammit!) to set my VCR to tape tonight's episodes of "Star Trek:  Enterprise" and "Battlestar Galactica" ...  especially after the very traumatizing news of "Enterprise" being cancelled after this season.  Fortunately, both shows are repeated tomorrow.  I have already set my VCR to tape them. ;D

I've had a long day.  I got to work early (7:00) and worked an extra hour and a half to make up time from earlier in the week.  After the rehearsal of either standing or sitting for very long periods of time doing practically nothing, I'm quite tired.  I don't know why. ::) Anyway, I'm claiming Wussburger status with reason, so good night all!

Sybil Danning, the very one...The Ray Court show is a show of movie/TV/Music memorabilia and a room full of usually either aging celebrities from the world of entertainment or young up and coming stars who sell pictures and autographs and other stuff.  Sybil has done this show many times before.   They are generally fun and run the gamut of celebs who are generally happy to be there and enjoying themselves meeting and greeting their fans and others who are grumpy and would rather be someplace else, but making a buck is making a buck.  Bruce and I have become habitues.

The Courts show also has rooms of dealers selling everything from books to movie posters to magazines to sheet music and misc. memorabilia.  There is usually a contingent of Playboy Bunnies of various vintage there and the occasional porn star.  I believe both Marilyn Chambers and Traci Lords will be putting in an appearance at the one in a couple of weeks.  But you can meet some interesting folk there from the Heydays of Hollywood...like director Vincent Sherman or Bruce Bennett or Johnathan Winters or our own BK, who does it once a year.

BK, I remember the Ray Courts show the last time warning us in their flyer not to be fooled by imitations.  So they must have seen this coming.  Maybe it's why they left the Bev Garland.  No reason not to go to both...This one may cost less to get in the door.  But I hope they would have the memorabilia dealers as well...So Ray has a little competition.  BK did they have a website one could go to...
