Mervyn LeRoy may not have been the world's greatest director, but he did make some wonderful films.

He was also a nice man; a second mentor to me.

The problems with GYPSY and MARY, MARY was casting, not direction.

Nothing wrong with the casting of Gypsy - plenty wrong with the stodgy direction.  And do you suppose he had no hand in casting Ms. Reynolds.

I never did hear from E&T DR edisaurus, so maybe I won't see her while she's in town.  She had written that she wanted to meet Annabelle and Thatch

Tomorrow morning I return for my post-op appointment, 3 days before the surgeon said the cast can come off.

I am hoping the x-ray is good and the cast can be removed.  I am also nervous about the condition of my arm & elbow having been in a cast so long.

Watching a dated Jerry Lewis movie, Visit to a Small Planet. He's now dancing at a beatnik club.

Funny Gore Vidal comedy damaged for Jerry Lewis.  I believe that Cyril Ritchard played the role on Broadway.

Yes, the film of Visit to a Small Planet is not faithful at all to the Vidal play, either in tone or dialogue.

Was out rifling through things in the garage again and found a bunch of old LA TV Guides from the 50s and early 60s.  I may put some of them up as a perk.

Great cast; Simon Russell Beale, Michael Palin (as Thackeray?), Frances de la Tour.

Started an interesting indy flick called Becks, apparently based on a true story. Lena Hall plays a singer-songwriter who loses her girlfriend and finds herself living once again with her mom (Christine Lahti). She starts over again. Of course, music seems like it will start pouring forth.

It was written for her mother, and apparently a semi-fictioalized story about her mother.

I was horrified by that story of that young man off of Cape Cod, who was killed by a shark.  They said yesterday that he was just playing on his boogie board when he was attacked.

Not knowing anything about boogie boards, I thought that meant he was very near shore when he was attacked.

Now they have said that he was 30 yards off shore.  That is not close to shore to me.

I would also think he wasn't too far from shore but then I used to swim pretty far out.
