Good evening, all!  I've been lurking the past couple of days.  I got a Gershwin medley on Sunday to score for a pops concert in April, and I'm racing to finish it  this week.  I need the money to cover the quarterly health insurance premium due March 1.

Favorite Indiana song:  "On the Banks of the Wabash," particularly as sung by the divine Miss Joan Morris.  It was written by the brother of Theodore Dreiser, author of SISTER CARRIE, and I believe it's one of the finest examples of nostalgia personified in music and text.

I don't want to vacation in London, I want to own a flat there!  Then my vacations would be treks to Oxford, Aldeburgh, Jane Austen's home, and Edinburgh, where my friend John Wallace, one of the greatest living trumpeters, runs the Scottish Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.

Speaking of Jane austen, I've been reading PRIDE AND PRESCIENCE.  The idea of using Austen's characters as a Regency Nick and Nora Charles is fine, if the author could better approximate Miss Austen's style and flair with words.  Jane is the literary equivalent to Mozart in my book, both the greatest in balance, harmony, wit, and humanity.

Back to George and Ira!

Yes, once before, on Halloween in 2003. It was crazy!  Since Mardi Gras will be over, I'm assuming it will be quieter this time.

I've only been in New Orleans once, for one day, and I had a great time - I ate from nine in the morning until midnight - never stopped.

Cillaliz have fun.

I spent hours walking around the city, listening to the great music, shopping and I had a boat tour of the Bayou.  Oh, and I did have some great food.

For fans of The Amazing Race - very good double episode.  And yes DRJENNIFER that particular spoiler I read last week was correct.  The first hour is a bit more exciting than the second - but the win comes in the second hour, of course.  Such beautiful locations.  And the Terra Cotta soldiers in X'iang were fascinating.

Hey, the phone line works!

I'm still working up to starting the process of thinking about beginning the first of my two papers. The first one isn't due until Friday, so I have scads of time.

I am hungry.

Clean bowl.  Do not use plastic nor aluminum.

I didn't use plastic or aluminum.

If you have an electric mixer - stand or handheld - do the same thing.  Start off slowly to get them frothy, then turn up the speed to High(est) and you should have fluffy egg whites in no time.  Watch carefully since it is very easy to over-whip them (they begin to look dry and curdled).

I have a handheld electric mixer.  I can get them frothy.  And i can get them fluffy.  But I couldn't get them to be rigid with the peaks. :(

Doubt my first trip to London would be more than a week, so I suspect it would be the city mostly with a possible day trip out of the city. But at this point, it's all academic anyway.

New Orleans is one of my favorite US cities. I've been three times for 4-5 days each, and have never gotten tired of the city or gotten bored with its charms. It's a great city to wander around in. And the food is terrific.

Well, I finally got a decent copy of JOHNNY GUITAR off Encore Western early this morning, and I transferred it to DVD this very day.

I don't know much about the Republic Trucolor process; I assume it was another variation on Eastman color. In the past few decades, I've seen some really awful versions of the film, but the film looks great now.

I'll be catching up with some of last year's Oscar-quality films over the next week or so. Grabbed THE STATION AGENT off Starz this morning, and I noticed 21 GRAMS is also showing there which I'll get soon.

DRMATTH - Trucolor was a two-color rather than 3-color process - that produced some nice flesh tones and good true greens and browns.  Other colors are not as true.  BUT it beat Cinecolor which was the poor man's Trucolor.  I think Cinecolor was less stable and made it difficult to get natural fleshtones.....a lot of bleeding usually happened in the print process as well.

Good Evening!

Back from the show.  My parents and some family friends came tonight, and they enjoyed it.  We were packed tonight as it turned out.  Most of this week is at near capacity.  I'm guessing the word of mouth has been good, and people are trying to get in while they can.

-The only real question that my Mom had for me after the show was:  "Is the picture of that actress in the program an old one?"

Ah - just a quick search tells me that JOHNNY GUITAR was filmed on 3-Color Eastman stock - and that the term TruColor was used at the Republic lab for any of its three color processes.  Some even think that an Ansco color camera negative was used.

You would be more than welcome Jose. I hear the sound of OZ chocolate calling you. OzDerek's sister used to (!) work at the Chocolate factory in Hobart.
Magnus and Fosca are still talking about your visit.

Ah, maybe that's what causing the "stitch" in my side... Lack of Australian chocolate.  Withdrawal symptoms.

Sprouts!

Sprouts!

Sprouts!

Tra-la, tra-la, tra-la!

I love all sprouts -- alfalfa, brussels, etc., etc., etc.

They're like mini-gardens exploding in your mouth!

I'm sorry, but I'm not with you on the brussels sprouts. They are icky. For some reason, I had to do a report on brussels sprouts for my Geography class in high school. I didn't like that.
