She of the Evil Eye is here, but I tell you I just am not in the mood to clear out, given the torrential downpour that has been going on non-stop since midnight last night. It woke me up at three, I didn't get back to sleep until five, and she arrived at eight. Add 'em up, Bobby, add 'em up - not enough sleeparooni.

That said - BOHEMIAN!

We can only pray that the stop-gap measures they took on the roof seven weeks ago are working and that we will have no leakage in the bedroom floor area, which, despite six weeks of fine weather, they have not attended to yet.

Nope, they haven't fixed the floor. A guy came out to look at it four weeks ago, and said he'd be able to do it in one day. Nothing heard for three weeks, then they called and asked when I'd be here for someone else to come look at it - a real professional flooring person. I said anytime. Nothing heard since then. Meanwhile my dresser sits quite a bit away from the wall it's supposed to be against, and I can barely squeeze between it and the bed to get across the room. That's the only thing that's physically off in the room - I mean, you can't tell there's a problem with the floor just by looking.

It turns out that Disney gave voice to Mickey once more, during the daily introductions for The Mickey Mouse Club. Some of this has been documented on the tin box Mickey Mouse in Living Color Volume Two. Of course, you're right about Mickey and the Beanstalk being his final appearance in a feature film/short.

I don't know about anyone else, but I love the fact that the current voice for Mickey, Wayne Allwine, is the real-life mate to the voice of Minnie, Russi Taylor.

). I haven't seen "Intimate Strangers," but I think it's safe to assume that "TSII" is nowhere near as good. Here's the plot from IMDb (I didn't correct the typo):

Samantha, a travel writer suffering from claustrophobia, agoraphobia, and a whole host of other phobias, isn't exactly lucky in her romantic fate. But when her pshycologist suffers a major mental breakdown, she secretly poses as the missing shrink in an effort to turn Michael, her new neighbor, towards her and away from his girlfriend. Through her chase, Samantha meets the happy-go-lucky magazine salesman, Henry. What follows is a series of events that lead to the one question Samantha has to face: Is she thinking with her heart... or with her mind?

The Bohemian Grove is very well known; the meetings are better described as "private" than "secret," although the latter word contributes to the mystique of the place. Media Check:

Books: I just finished re-reading Patrick Kuk's The Last Days of Haute Cuisine, and have handed it over to der Brucer. I found it even more interesting the second time, having read other books about American dining in the interim. Der Brucer has already caught an awkward phrase at the start of the second chapter, ever alert to typos and grammar as he is.

DVDs: Der B has been watching Secret Window (which he enjoyed) and 28 Days Later (which he didn't). He's got season one of MacGyver to keep him occupied, if it's ever a slow news day. I've got Groundhog Day on tap, but the green gun on the main TV is going out on us; I realize the film is set during the winter, but I'd still rather see it in full color.

My two favorite Miller plays are Death of a Salesman and The Crucible. The recent Broadway revival was particularly powerful for me and reminds of the depths to which some are plummeting in this country. His stand against the witch hunts in the 50s and his refusal to agree to cancel his appointment if the head of the committee investigating him could be photographed with Marilyn Monroe (to whom he was married at the time) is a great moment (for me) in mid-1950s history.

Small world, ain't it? BK, years ago, The Lovely Wife, Julieanne, (and maybe me as well...though I don't recall)was in the theatre department at the University of Kentucky with Joanie Rue and Joanie's sister. Sara, I believe is Joan's daughter (I know she has a daughter out here in a series). Joanie is currently on the administrative staff of the Theatre Department there and Julieanne and I have a great deal of contact with her because she has been instrumental in perserving the theatre's legacy and history which we are also involved with and have supplied her with many photos and old programmes and articles,etc. Joanie is a lovely person and it has been great working with her...because she was there at approximately same time we were and so shares many of the same memories of the various professors and shows. Joanie is also a very modest person. Throughout my contact with her, she never once mentioned she had a daughter out here in Hollywood, I found it out through a mutal friend.
