TOD - DR vixmom, I've also "fallen" for a Schlotzkey's sandwich - grilled chicken, Jarlsberg cheese, spinach, and roasted red peppers on sourdough (?) toast. Had it for the first time Saturday evening and can't wait to get back for another.

Here in the Cincinnati area, Izzy's is the premier deli - they make a great Reuben and wonderful beef barley soup to accompany it.

Vixmom, the book you're describing is not the paperback edition (and true 1st edition) that you posted. I actually have the one you're describing published by MacMillan. Needless to say, I did not pay the price that it is now going for...But I'm delighted to see that is now worth over three times what I paid for mine.

I have complete set of those Brown MacMillans and they've all gone up considerably since when they were first published in the mid-eighties.

Another hot sandwich I learned to make from my mom: 1 bottle of chili sauce, grated cheddar cheese (about a cup and a half/2 cups), chopped black olives. Mix together and spoon mixture into hot dog buns. Wrap in foil, individually or in pairs, and refrigerate. Heat, wrapped, in oven at 350 for about 30 minutes. Great make-ahead item.

Thanks for asking. We are still, unfortunately, sick, though thankfully slowly on the road to recovery. Everyone who has had this dreadful thing has said it holds on for weeks, and we are sadly finding that to be the truth.

Betsy has pretty much made up her mind not to do the radio gig, though they came closer to getting her this time than any recent time (Betsy tends to get broadcasting offers at least once or twice a year).

Fans of Sergio Mendes alert: check out the British group Sirius B, especially their 3rd CD "Bagunca"--you will not be disappointed. I missed posting on Sergio's 64th birthday last week, February 11th. Along with Julius, one of the people who made A&M my favorite label of the late 60s and early 70s.

Just did a little research on THE CASE OF THE DANCING SANDWICHES...The paperback (its cover posted here) is listed on my trusty book site as starting out at $95 dollars and the top price for the same book is around $1,700. Average price for it is between $150-250. This also goes for the MacMillan edition. There is actually a magazine version (it's first actual appearance) going for $150. Lowest price for which it can be had is $95.

Correction: Top price for Dancing Sandwiches is $1750. Of course, I can't see anyone paying that ludicrous price for it when the same book can be had for as low as $95 or in the mid-hundreds. That is one of the nice things about the internet and used books. It is a great price leveller. Now if I had a copy of the paperback I would, of course, immediately be valuing it at the $1750 price!

Maybe this is a good thing. It gives me the opportunity to suggest you mention to your "stylist" that you swim and use the jacuzzi...he may want to avoid using "lightening" chemicals that might react negatively to whatever chemicals you might use in pool/jacuzzi.

I'm very glad that I got a copy (thanks again, Larry!!) Now I have the three forgotten Rodgers & Hammerstein musicals (Me and Juliet, Allegro and Pipe Dream) on CD.
