I see From Russia With Love because I am working part time at the Del Mar Theater on Pico, a real crap movie theater.  I see it many times whilst ushering.  The following week I see The Pink Panther many times, and the week after it's Viva Las Vegas - and then I quit.

Tired this morning, but in a much better way than yesterday. It was so great falling asleep last night.

Feline contingent is fed and on the recliner with me.

COFFEE!

A Thousand Clowns with Dane Clark comes to the Hartford, with original B'way star Barry Gordon, too.  For some stupid reason I don't go.  Understudy to Barry Gordon?  Barry Pearl.

I love A THOUSAND CLOWNS...even the disjointed movie.

Back in the mid-1960s, I directed a production in the Redondo Beach/Torrance area.  In fact, at that community theater's annual dinner, several of my actors won awards for their performances.

So what does today hold for the likes of me?

Dusting and reshelving some books. (Who do I think I am all of a sudden? DR Elmore?)

Attending a Mahler Fifth — the execution of which might well be execrable, but I will nevertheless have a good time hearing the live performance and visiting with a few musician friends.

Cooking the veggies and warming the corned beef I cooked all afternoon and evening yesterday.

Eating same.

Something I now wish I’d planned:  some sort of big Irish-ish breakfast.

Which would probably be along the lines of a vixfamily style breakfast feast. Vixmom, don’t you make bangers and mash? Boy, would that hit the damned spot right about now.

We watched SALLY (1929), with the legendary Marilyn Miller, last night .

I'd never seen her in anything before and, although she was certainly likable, I don't understand what the big deal was about her.

Her singing and dancing were okay, but nothing to get overly excited about.

The direction of the film was static, so perhaps what she did came across better on the stage than on film.

Also, it was originally a color movie, but except for one short sequence, the film is now in B&W.  (The rest of the color negative is lost.)

Any thoughts?

I slept through the alarm again, so I think it's time for a new clock.  I woke at 7:15 to Thatch's constant badgering about breakfast, fed them, reset the alarm for 8:30 to see if I would hear it, and went back to bed.  Annabelle created a problem that forced me to get up at 8:20, so I have noi answers.  As I was puttering about, I did hear the alarm ring at 8:30, but that was not what I had intended.

Before I get back to work on the choral piece, I need to do some serious tidying up.

Today is not only St Patrick's Day; it's also St Gertrude's day!  Annabelle and Thatch are going over to Holy Trinity to light a candle.

Here’s a Sunday question for the class:

What type of alarm clock or other device do you use?

Mine is an older, probably 1980s-vintage clock radio, a type I’ve always been comfortable with except for one feature, and that’s the fact that the time setting buttons are completely unguarded; i.e., you (or, let’s say, a cat) can accidentally change the current time setting at any time. If the design of these had included something else you had to hold down to change the time, like when you set the alarm, it would be perfect.

Most days I don’t have to set any alarm. (The cats come with an automatic person getter upper that is pretty much undefeatable.) But when I do, it’s the clock radio set to NPR, backed up by the iPhone set to five minutes later.

It's this one:

https://www.radiomuseum.org/r/general_el_space_saver_fmam_electronic_digital_7_4624a.html

I didn't have this myself in the '80s. I probably had some newer-fangled thing then, don't remember now, but I do know that in the 1990s I tried two different modernistic gray Sony models, BOTH of which managed to break or fail somehow, and I gave up on them. At some point I found this one at a tag or estate sale and snatched it up for a dollar. That was probably 15-20 years ago, and it still serves me perfectly well.

Try setting the alarm on your phone clock for 5 minutes after your regular clock.

I have a clock I got from Radio Shack a few years ago.  I can see the time in the dark without putting my glasses on.  Keith has the Bose radio/CD clock.

Neither of us set an alarm on these anymore.  We ask Alexa to set an alarm.  If we need a backup for an early alarm we use one or both of our cellphones.

I can see this time display in the dark and without my glasses on if I squint just the right way.

Ladies and germs, a special announcement:

The work on the bookshelves has been postponed until tomorrow. Much activity going on here today, and I can get it all torn apart and reconstructed when I’m home alone.

I just applied for adoption of the beautiful Mia and then sent the agency a message that she deserved better than me; I was too old, and she needed an active loving family.  It breaks my heart, but it was the right thing to do.

Not mashed because  Vixdad doesn't care for it so it's bangers and oven roasted new potatoes.

I forgot to go to Trader Joe's to buy the Irish bangers they only carry this time of the year.  I wonder if they'll have any left today

Nice clock.

I have a small electronic clock with BIG numbers that I can see without my glasses....but I now have my phone nearby so I can see it.....  I don't have any place to go, so I don't have to set an alarm.
