Going with my sister Molly to a memorial for a friend of our mother's who passed away on Tuesday.....Molly and her daughter grew up together and were very close friends.

I thought it was at a restaurant, but I looked up the place online and it's a venue.....so I'm taking a pie just in case.....

My sympathies, JRand.

Speaking of pie, has anyone had something called Utah pickle pie? Saw a recipe this week and can’t get anyone to make it for me. Sounds weird, like vinegar pie.

Back from lunch meeting - I did eat because I hadn't heard from Grant - but now dinner is on, too.  Therefore, I can ONLY have the scampi - no bread, no salad.  If I do that I'll still be right around 1000 calories.

It has the word pickle in it, and I doubt it is a Kosher new pickle  :P

That said, I would be willing to take one tiny taste.

The memorial was very nice....and Katy's grand daughter Katie said thanks for bringing the pie....pumpkin NOT pickle.

It was mostly family.....but we saw daughter Misty and her two children and husband of 62 years, Larry.  Katy had early onset dementia and had been in care for almost three years.  They were sad, but they were also glad that her suffering had come to an end....

The My Sister Molly said since we were dressed up, we should go out to eat....so we went to Dong's Chinese Buffet and stuffed ourselves....

I was just about to ask.....  I am glad it was a good memorial and comfort in the gathering.

As soon as we left the NYC area my allergies cleared up and I felt great most of the day.

And, best of all the trip was a great success. I may incur the wrath of Samuel French employees, but for years they've let their musical theatre materials be handled by incompetent supervisors, and the Al Carmines show Promenade, which Summer Encores is doing this summer, is a case in point. The orchestra parts are often in different keys from the vocal score, and the libretto they're sending out is the playwright's revised script which cuts three songs in the score.  Our trip to New Paltz was to look at the collection of Susan Romann, conductor of the 1969 off-Broadway production that opened the Promenade Theatre.  All of her rehearsal and performance materials were there - conductor's score, a lot of the original orchestra parts, rehearsal and vocal scores, and the original script with pages of revisions.

Now that I'm back, the allergies are flaring up.  The morning news said it will be bad through the middle of next week.

My last piece of good news was an email tonight from Warner Music Group telling me the check would be cut on Monday.

Listening to some music, pre-dinner.  I'm a huge Darius Milhaud fan but had never heard his concerto for marimba, vibraphone, and orchestra.  The slow movement is sublime, a gorgeous piece of music.

I also forgot to answer MR BK's question in the notes.

I have four televisions.  Only one is connected to cable and Roku.

The other three have HD antennas.  Two of them have the type that look like old rabbit ears.  Good picture - but can be cumbersome to move around since you can't set them on top of the tv.

The other ONE has the bat wing type HD antenna - this one works fine and is much easier to move around if you need to in order to get a better picture.

Both install the same way....so either is fine - but for convenience, I would recommend the flat bat wing.

My neighbor has one. I guess his is the batwing type. His is mounted near the ceiling. He seems quite happy with it. Less than $100 at costco, IIRC.

Have we discussed here that Fannie Flagg's real given  name is Patricia Neal?

per Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fannie_Flagg
"Fannie Flagg (born Patricia Neal; September 21, 1944) is an American actress, comedian and author."

That's May 2. The day after May Day.   if you reach Cinco de Mayo, go back because you've passed it.

And, of course, Cinco de Mayo is MY birthday! ;)

Perfect to also have your actual birthday on a Sunday this year!

I know, right? ;D
