I see one of the evil Koch brothers has died.

Pity.

I know, right. ;)

Patrol was weird this morning.  Annabelle was deliberately contrary.  She wanted to go out, she wanted to ride the elevator until it arrived, she went to the basement with me and went through her usual terrified act until the elevator arrived. Then she refused to board and decided to explore.  She pulled the same on the first floor and I chased her to the second where she lounged on the linoleum until a tenant above us loudly closed their doo and spooked her.  She ran to the elevator and waited till it arrived before she decided she really wanted to explore the second floor and I had to drag her home.  She's back to her old self.

Whew!

Annabelle is testing you...she must have decided to do that new play ANNABELLE OR CHANGE.....

She says she can play an African-American woman!

It's called ACTING! ;D

Rex was going in every other day for fluids last summer. He got so they couldn't work with him because he was so angry. We jointly decided to stop and let him live as long as he lives. They may require me to take him in soon, since it has been about a year since he was in. We didn't expect him to live this long.

In another side of the crazy life of cats, Thatch is being exceptionally clingy and wanting attention this afternoon.  It's complicated because he's so timid and jumpy about being held that he runs away if he sees more than one hand approaching him.  So, he'll let me pet him and brush him if only one hand is involved, he'll curl up and sleep next to me or walk all over my work table as long as I make no attempt to hold him.

Given where we were when he moved in, this is a miracle!

Because Poe changed over the years from enjoying to hating his trips to the vet, he’s now routinely prescribed a “Calm Kitty” kit when an exam is scheduled.

It consists of — (1) um, I forget, but it’s something in a capsule that we mix into his food once a day for a week, (2) one Gabapentin pill we pulverize and mix in the morning of, and (3) a wipe-down of the interior of his carrier with a pheromone solution.

The potent thing is the Gabapentin which leaves him loopy the rest of the day, but it makes the exam doable. The vet’s standard prescription for that is two pills (one the night before), but when I reported that the two had left him WAY too loopy and off balance, they reduced it.

One of my niece's cats has to have fluids every other day.  My niece has learned how to inject the cat herself (with another person holding the cat) and they both (niece and cat) have adjusted to the process.  Is it possible for you to do that yourself (with the help of another person), Laura?  The fluids are quite inexpensive and not having to go to the vet every other day saves money there, too.  Just a thought.

I recall discussing this when Rex went on fluids.  DR Laura do I remember correctly that he is a difficult cat to give the fluids?  DR Ron was very helpful when we had to learn to do this for Bogie.

Rex is still with us. The vet staff is amazed every time we go in to refill his meds.

I get it now, he isn't going with you to the vet to pick up the meds.

Friday afternoon greetings!  Richard and I went to Hamilton today for a lecture and lunch at High Street Cafe, one of our favorite places.  We then went to visit the historic monument on the site of the original Fort Hamilton, where neither of us had ever been.  The interior walls are inscribed with veterans’ names, Revolution through the Spanish-American War.  The first list, though, is early Butler County pioneers and it includes my great, great, great, great grandfather, Ephriam Tucker.  Pretty cool, huh?

This morning I had a great swim.  I felt strong & good, for me, in spite of the fact my back & hip had a twinge this morning.

By this afternoon putting on my shoes was very uncomfortable.  I did fine on our walk breathing into the pain, except for the little hills.  Going up those hurt more.

Well, I'm off.  It turns out that I need to run a few errands and won't have time before the show starts tonight, so I'm leaving work now.

Be back later.

When we were going to the vet every other day, they were very good to us. They charged us for the fluids and did the installation (?) at no cost. I took a lot of sweets to them. But he got too hard to work with. That's a real shame, because Rex really is a nice friendly cat.

Now Joshie --  he was a real terror at the vet.

On the positive side, I saw Erik, my massage therapist, today, then went across the street and bought the last of the almond croissants, along with several healthier choices.

He would have peace and serenity without Leonard around. Asha and Rex ignore each other.
