MILITARY HUMOR

Well, you've read the notes, you've marched to the notes, you've stood at attention reading the notes, and now you are at ease and ready to post until the cows come marching home.

Once again, I think I'm going to toddle off to the bedroom environment so I can get plenty of sleep before Thursday's trip, for which I have to get up at four in the morning.

After some minutes of thought, I think I would like to be Juliette Mendie.  She is two years of age and has a lifetime and whole world of discovery ahead. Juliette is the daughter of my niece.

Vixmom asked:

"Is there a certain standard of dress required at the aforementioned restaurant? Are neat jeans and sneakers acceptable?"

You and your DH will be fine in neat jeans and sneakers at both the theatre and Angus McIndoe's. It's a relaxed, casual place so no tie is necessary.

On Saturday I think we're all meeting at the theatre and going out from there after the show.

I will need to think about the TOD.

Oh, that I was a PUNDIT, I could end this post with something pithy, but I'm not so I won't. I'll just say bye for now.

Good morning, all!  This week is a mess for me, and I'm juggling work and my social calendar like mad:  a one-act play tonight at 9 pm,  dinner with the daughter of my best friend from college tomorrow, Martin Conor, who directed my adaptation of BABES IN TOYLAND for the Houston Grand Opera, comes in tomorrow from London, and BK arrives on Thursday.  Friday is DRGinny, and Saturday and Sunday are booked with Penny O's show and all the incoming friends from HHW.  Oy!  For a person with one social event every other week, this is amazing.  My mantra this week:  I will survive.

The TOD:  my first impulse was Jane Austen, because she's my favorite writer, but I've decided on Gypsy Rose Lee: what a life she had, and then to have a musical centered around you.  As Jack Benny would say, well!

DRMichael Shayne, I'm going to tell them on Friday, when I call to confirm, that there may be as many as 25-30.  That should cover all bases.

Pundit!  It can be dangerous to be one.

ROGER RAMJET made me laugh - but that made me think of SPACE ANGEL which I liked but which was kind of creepy with their Clutch Cargo mouth action.

Hmmmmmmmmm.....TOD.......hmmmm.....  It was a hard choice, but I think I would like to be Doris Day!

Here is your Allison Hayes picture of the week.  The cover of the newly released bargain DVD MOHAWK - also featuring Lori Nelson and Scott Brady with John Hoyt, Mae Clarke, John Hudson, and Neville Brand.  8)

Could I be Paul Newman? Successful actor, long interesting career, plus a race car driver.  Long stable marriage, charitable works, rich and good looking to boot....

RE: THE CAMERAMAN which DR Rodzinski was asking about last night, I think it's hilarious, Buster's best film under his MGM contract, but I don't think it quite reaches the heights of THE GENERAL, SHERLOCK, JR., or STEAMBOAT BILL, JR.

DR Rodzinski, thank you for the offer of the Arch Hall Jr. CD copy...but actually I have already arranged for a secret pirated copy to be sent my way just as soon as a certain DR in Indiana receives his copy. LOL!

or this?

Military Insurance
submitted by: T.Smith, VA
Sergeant Clark was assigned to the induction center, where he advised new recruits about their government benefits, especially their GI insurance.

It wasn't long before Captain Rogers noticed that Sergeant Clark had almost a 100% record for insurance sales, which had never happened before.

Rather than ask about this, the Captain stood in the back of the room and listened to Clark's sales pitch. Clark explained the basics of the GI Insurance to the new recruits, and then said: "If you have GI Insurance and go into battle and are killed, the government has to pay $200,000 to your beneficiaries. If you don't have GI insurance, and you go into battle and get killed, the government only has to pay a maximum of $6000."

"Now", he concluded, "which bunch do you think they are going to send into battle first?"

More on the Mario AMERICAN IDOL fiasco:

He was on Regis & Kelly and said that it "just didn't feel right" (being on Idol). He said it's like when you are in love and you inexplicably fall out of love. He said being on Idol just didn't feel right for him. And he had to go with his intuition.

Could this really be the real reason?  I must say that would seem really dumb to me.

DR TCB, re: your Idol question.  Yes the "he" was Simon.  Paula was accusing Simon of disliking one of the contestants (was it one of the twins?).  For some reason I thought that is who it was.  But maybe not.

Last night I dreamed I was at Manderley.  And you were there.. and you and you.  Some of it was awful, but most of it was beautiful.  But still, all I kept saying was "I want to go home."  So they sent me home!

TOD-- without some of the problems she experienced in the last decade or so of her life, I'd want to  be Paulette Goddard.

As I was preparing my toast this morning (the bread kind- not the kind with the champagne), the doorbell rang and startled me, so the jelly knife shot out of my hand.  "FLYING SMUCKERS!' I yelled.  I thought this sounded like something W.C. Fields would have said or possibly the name of a singing group of Trapeze artists.

I'd have to pick Julie Andrews. She's had such a varied and interesting career, and she seems to be a classy but down to earth lady.

Mario Vazquez has spoken in riddles for two days now about his reasons for leaving IDOL, and nothing he's said yet has been of any consequence. At this point, he's gone, and I'm moving on.

What do you want to bet that tonight's ratings are among the highest ever in the history of IDOL (apart from the finales).

Easy to remember when St. patrick's Day is if you remember the lyrics to Judy Garland's wonderful rendition of Roger Edens' "It's a Great Day for the Irish":

"Don't you know that today's March 17;
It's the day for the wearin' of the green. . . ."

Ah DRMATTH - Julie Andrews was my second close choice!!!

DR RODZINSKI - Allison Hayes is a wonderful choice!

Dream?  I usually don't talk about my dreams - but last night's was so unusual - for me, that is.

I discovered a Record Store on a corner where none had been before.  I went inside and bought ABBA's Greatest Hits on LP for 47 cents.  Then I bought a cassette of a musical version of THE FRONT PAGE starring Billie Burke with music by the Gershwins for $1.27.   And then I woke up.

In fact, mentioning it makes me want to see me laserdisc of LITTLE NELLIE KELLY now. Maybe I should wait two days and watch on St. Paddy's Day.
