SR Ginny, I had never heard the word Chicagoland before! I wish them great success with the work and selling the house. I wish our damned property would sell.
In July 1985, when I moved from Redondo Beach to Chicago where I was to live and work for the next year and half, I thought
Chicagoland was the silliest thing I'd ever heard. I think it took but a couple of months of seeing and hearing it used by the locals and on the news every night and whatnot, before I found myself not only embracing it but loving how it deliberately encompassed the suburbs and surrounding towns. It actually had, you know, "meaning".
And that probably sounds just as silly as the name had sounded to me, but -- perhaps like Chicago hot dogs and Italian beef sandwiches and deep dish pizza and other things unique to the area -- you had to be there.
